I can't get this thing to work. It says "Finding Location" forever no matter where I am. Is this because I have to sign up for verizon's evdo service? I thought the gps was supposed to work without the internet connection.

You have to turn on the WWAN and the GPS receivers from the Smartwireless panel. You don't need either an Internet connection or to sign up for Verizon.
Once the receivers are on, Streets and Trips will work as will any other GPS program like Garmin's offerings.
