    I've installed Vista Home Basic on VGN-SZ220. I don't have sound and fan runs like crazy????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

    try installing speedfan and also try flashing the bios with a newer version from the sony support website
    abou the sound download the latest vista drivers for your particular model from the sony support website

    Did you try this new driver from sony support? I'm not sure it will help, but it sounds promising:

    "02/19/2007 - Power Management - Sony® VAIO® Power Management Utility Update - Resolves an issue where the CPU cooling fan settings may not operate as expected"

    Installing the audio drivers gave me sound.
