I'm ordering a Z570 from PortableOne with the following spec's.

The only thing I can't decide on is which Hard Drive to get.

Which should I buy, the 250/7200 or the 320/5400

    VAIO Z570 P9500 2.53GHz
    4 GB Ram DDR3
    250 GB 7200 rpm
    Z Docking Station
    2 Year VAIO Accidental Onsite
    Vista BusinessP1 XP Pro Downgrade

    P1 Promo: Enterprise Theft Protection

If you don't need the space, get the 250. It will be a better performing drive, people will tell you different numbers but I think the difference in performance is noticeable.

The 7200RPM drive will run hotter than the 5400RPM drive, so keep that in mind, although it may not matter if you dont use it as a "lap" top.

in all those tests the toshiba 320 GB still outperforms my previous toshiba 160 GB drive that came with my first SR. So I r happy!

But yea...now that i think of it..maybe i should have paid 50 bucks more for the smaller capacity, hotter, yet faster 250 GB 7200 RPM drive... meh... oh well.

Great. Performance is still quite good.

And you can always buy an external enclosure, put the Tosh in it and buy a WD3200BEKT for your SR. Everyone needs an external harddrive in my opinion.

Duke, thanks for the tip ... there's a few reasons I'm ordering from PortableOne ... Sony.com doesn't ship to Canada and Sony Canada only sells one configuration of the Z a 'Z555' which isn't spec'd out like the 570 and finally I've been really happy with PortableOne's advice service ...

PhilFlow, Thanks for that. From reading your posts I respect your advice. What hard drive would you put in the Z and what do you think of the spec's I ordered on it.

So, I ended up with the LG P300 ... it's not going back ... my wife loves it, so she's going to take it and sell her heavy 15" Dell and I'm going to take the Z and hope it's my 'dream machine'

Phil - what kind of notebook do you use?

    Thanks again!

Looks like fine specs. Personally I would go 1600*900 and for the 2.4Ghz because the performance difference will be very small.

I'd order the cheapest drive from Sony and then replace it with the WD3200BEKT.
