Hi, I recently purchased a Sony VGNN250EW (my first laptop) and I noticed that from time to time, the screen would pause in the middle of something, go blank then go back on again.

Not sure if this is normal or not. When I first noticed it, I thought the computer was just running unusually hard or something. But I'm little worried now because my friend's laptop has a flickering problem with his screen and I wanted to make sure that this wasn't my problem also.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Don't know about that particular model or brand, but that certainly isn't normal. Of course, it really all depends upon the length of the screen issue, as I know that my Dell Inspiron 6000's screen will occasionally flicker for about a quarter of a second every once in a while, and so it then therefore have more to do with XP/Vista than anything else. If I were you, I would call Sony and tell them about the problem and see what they say about it.

I know some sony laptops were experiencing a similar problems under Vista, but im not sure if that model is vista or not. Anyway the fix is pretty simple, Go to device manager, drivers, and go down to acpi lid manager (or something similar) and change the driver to volume manager. This is a rough guide, if you get stuck ask and ill post a full rundown on what to do.

thanks for your replies guys. My laptop actually hung twice today. Vista is just plagued with to many bugs so I'm refunding it tomorrow... wish it didn't have to come down to this but I guess I'm just not ready for this now. My old desktop has been faithful all these years so I'll be relying that for quite some time now.

    Thanks again for your replies.

Hi there, I tried following your instructions on changing the ACPI Lid to volume manager, but I did not see any option under the properties for that. I am using Windows XP.

I would appreciate further guidance on that issue.

    Cheers

Here a tip to test if that woulf be a software or Hardware Issue.
1st reinstall video card driver and also update the driver that is possible to update for the notebook. the last option would be a reformat. After reformat and it' still the same problem contact sony support for possible HW issue. sony support In English: 1-888-476-6972

My suggestion is only for Vista laptops, If you are getting this problem under XP its caused by something else.
