The Notebook Review forums were hosted by TechTarget, who shut down them down on January 31, 2022. This static read-only archive was pulled by NBR forum users between January 20 and January 31, 2022, in an effort to make sure that the valuable technical information that had been posted on the forums is preserved. For current discussions, many NBR forum users moved over to NotebookTalk.net after the shutdown.

    I remember reading a little while back on this site about a program Sony puts in the startup folder that is meant to detect whether the battery you're using is a genuine Sony battery. If it discovered the battery wasn't Sony's, it would shut down the computer until you replaced it with a Sony battery.

    In the post, the author mentioned a work-around for this issue. It shut off a battery monitor proggy in the startup folder/background.

    I looked for the post...and it would be appreciated if someone could link to it in this thread.
