Hey, I was just wondering if anybody has installed the new bios update for their SZ and that it works properly. Thanks

    Filename: PHBSYS-01041217-US.EXE
    Version: R0073N0

    P.S. there's also a new network update.

NM. I installed it and it appears to be working smoothing, as is the new network update. There's also an update for the NVIDIA driver, but it's for the Go7200, which is odd...because all SZ's come with the Go7400. Can anybody explain this?

I already installed the Go 7200 drive, it works fine and now there's new menu for the Nvidia display settings. And don't worry it's still recognised as Go7400 at display properties.

maybe sony just placed the wrong name. but still i'm not going to install it yet until they change it

the new bios and network updates work and I noticed someone posted that the NVIDIA 7200 driver works as well (though I haven't tried it myself.) I'm waiting for more positive feedback because I'm still bewildered as to why we were given a NVIDIA 7200 driver update for a laptop that has a NVIDIA 7400. To my knowledge a 7200 gpu doesn't exist.

It doesn't. It's a typo. I wouldn't worry about it. Mine worked fine.

True, it's probably a typo, but I just installed it and experienced something I've never experienced before. The core speed of my T2500 clocks in at 1000MHz now instead of 2000MHz and subsequently causes my laptop to sound like a jet. I noticed there was another post on this, but that a solution hadn't been found (or posted) so those of you who experienced this problem with the Core Speed if you found a way to solve this, please let me know. I'm monitering it with CPU-Z. Thanks.

I installed the bios and network connection driver. Now I have lost my wireless switch utility. And I get an error that says "wireless connection adapter not found please install..." Anyone have this problem.

And I tried to install the wireless switch utility with the recovery discs and it doesn't do anything, just makes me restart the computer.

Same thing happened to me. I got the error message that went something like "No compatible network adapter found" from Intel PRO/Set Wireless Utility. It could still connect using Windows wireless manager, though. So I finally ended up downloading and installing the one from Intel's web site instead ( Link). When you're intalling it you'll get a few dialog boxes saying "File XYZ already exists. Do you want to overwrite it?" Answer yes to all of them and then reboot. It should work again.

^^ Hey thanks, it worked. I was also able to install the wireless switch utility afterwards too. The one listed on intel's site is a newer version than what is listed on sony's site.

Alright, I just noticed I lost the functionality of my blue "Fn" key. I can't lower/raise the brightness, volume, etc...

    Anyone else?

I've not had any problems with either the Fn key controlling volume or brightness or with the S2 button since installing the BIOS update this morning on my SZ160P.

Just to confirm that the new SZ bios (version R0073N0) worked for me on a SZ-110/B. "Worked for me" means installation went smooth and no problems -or new features for that matter- can be reported...

I installed it with the hope that my "TPM not available or TPM has problems" message when entering the bios would be corrected. In any case, I was given an event number by a very helpful lady after calling Sony's CS and was promised an answer. I'll post when I have info on that...

ProphetX, a bit off topic but I have been trying to figure that out, if my SZ110/B has TPM or not... According to Sony's USA website specs ( here), and also BestBuy ones at time of purchase all SZ series laptops have it...

Well sorry to say but the SZ110 doesnt have TPM. I bought my SZ from best buy, and the 110 was not an option for me because of its lack of TPM (EVen though i dont know how to use it). At the time of purchase which was 4 days before they took the SZ120 off of their site. And they listed the SZ110 without TPM and SZ120 with TPM.

    Hope that helps.

ProphetX, I don't know either, the exact purpose of the TPM. All I've learned by browsing around is that it is a chip embeded in the MoBo in charge of encrypting information. Some forum members have mentioned it is also related to the Fingerprint Sensor which, oddly enough, works flawlessly in my case. Not to discredit your observations but I managed to get a cached version of the BestBuy page I looked at when I was purchasing my SZ110/B and, as you may see, TPM was included.

Fortunately, this is not a crucial feature for me and I am just being a pain in the...

Can anyone respond with 'why' you would upgrade? Is this addressing some known problems? Does the graphics driver update provide better 3DMark performance?
