We just got a Sony Vaio VGN-NR160E/S. It came with 1GB RAM, and Sony sales specs said you could upgrade to 4GB, so we got two 2GB chips and loaded 'em, but system now reads only ~3GB (3062MB). We found small print now that says that system "may not" access maximum memory (all 4GB). Has anyone run into this and/or found a way to beat it and access all 4 GB? Or can some of the remaining memory (whatever isn't being accessed as main memory) be somehow directed to video memory (if that makes sense?)? Thanks!

The Sony Vaio VGN-NR160E/S is a Santa Rosa notebook so you will need a 64bit OS to see(and use) the 4GBs. However, most people dont need 4GB and device drivers for a 64bit OS may be hard to fine.

32bits OS can only see ~3GB with 4GB installed.

Thanks for clarifying the 32- vs. 64-bit issue. Based on your reply I did some more research and find that indeed, while I can upgrade to a 64-bit version of Vista, the drive compatibility issues may override my desire for that 4th GB of memory. I appreciate your help!
