    Hey guys,

I've run into a wall. I've been trying for the past few days on updating my Video Drivers along with my ATI Catalyst Control Center. I've search other threads, but gotten lost, and was hoping for some more immediate and specific help.

First off is the specs on my recent purchased and received VGN-FW285J

So first, I tried updating the drivers from the Sony eSupport site. I downloaded the file, went through the installation processes.. etc.. but in the end, all the information pictured above doesn't get updated with the downloaded from the Sony eSupport site (latest driver is like 10/2008)

And last, I tried to update my drivers using the ATI website, and the specific package for my 64-bit OS, and card. But just like the Sony update, I went through the EXE update, and the same results had occurred.

I read that I need to have the ATI mobility modder to update my video drivers first? i had searched all over the ATI website for this "mobility modder" but couldn't find anything. i felt weary about using third-party downloads off a google search.

Can anyone help me get my video drivers to the latest and greatest? I had recent bought some PC games, and want to be able to max out my ATI 3650 to its full capability, and want to get the most of my recent purchase.

    Thanks in advance guys!

Mobility modder is here. The ATI files are for desktop, which is why you need to mod the *.inf files for your laptop. In general, it's easiest to extract the *.inf files using the ATI exe, run mobility modder, and then install the driver from the Device Manager.

Yep, mobility modder is a third-party app and is not endorsed by ATI. I've been using the modder since I first got my FW. I haven't had any major problems except sometimes I do get ATI driver errors. It happens very rarely and under extreme, long gaming sessions, so I don't know if this is related to the driver since I haven't really been gaming using the factory driver. I'll get a screenshot next time it happens.

I was scared at first but ultimately, the newer drivers to fix numerous problems so I'm ok with them so far.

so i just ran this "mobility modder"

when its asking for the inf (driver) file, is this the existing, current, and installed driver on the computer now? and where is this driver located (sorry).

also, so after the driver has been applied with the "mobility modder", then do i install the update from the ATI website? or the one from the sony eSupport?

When you download the driver from the ATI website, what it will do is first extract the *.inf files into a directory (usually C:\ATI) but it should tell you what directory it is, and then try to install those drivers. Then cancel the install *after* the extraction but *before* it actually attempts to install the inf files extracted. Do the mobility modder thing and install from device manager.

Usually, ATI will update drivers far more frequently than Sony, so in the future, you would upgrade from ATI's site using the same mobility modder method.
