I have a VGN-NR123E vaio. The harddrive was wiped trying to upgade from vista to win7 but it wont allow me to do a wipe install for whatever reason, something to do with a CD/DVD drive driver missing. Sony Support says i needed to upgrade to win7 directly from in vista but since i cannot get into vista anymore this is a problem.

I need the recovery disks to install vista again but i cant find my set and didnt make a new set before the wipe because i didnt think it would be a issue. Sony doesnt have the VGN-NR100E series recovery disks in stock anymore and im not paying $75 to get them from a third party.

I would look for an external optical drive that is bootable. That might work just fine.
