Folks I bought a used Sony Vaio Laptop today for $400 US.

I live in the Caribbean so its usually a little more expensive but over all I think it was a fair price.

But I really really love this laptop, the guy even put in a brand new western digital 320 GB HDD in it because this laptop was giving problems before so he decided to replace the HDD.

I am just concerned about the LCD lamp life and I hope this lappie lasts me another 3 years or more. I heard SONY quality in their laptop has depreciated.

Anyways the WEB CAM is not working because it needs drivers and when I use the short cut for screen brightness isn't working. I am not sure if its a fault with the laptop itself though. Because when I use shortcut for speaker mute with the fn key they work. All except the screen brightness.

I keep getting errors every time I try to install the windows vista drivers.

Also how do I recalibrate the battery for this? I think the battery is having issues charging and keeping a steady charge the estimation it gives is very out of alignment so to speak.

Checked on Sony E Support website and they are not providing W7 drivers for download...

    http://esupport.sony.com/US/perl/os7upgrade.pl?mdl=VGNFZ240E

If you do a search.... you might find someone that provides the drivers online...

Use the Sony supplied Vista drivers for 32-bit Windows 7. You can have a look at my guide for getting newer versions of drivers for your hardware.

Rajesh I tried using windows vista drivers but they give a number of errors even disabled UAC etc

Your guide is for 64 bit do you have one for 32 bit? i downloaded and tried the vaio event service and it did not work.

Perhaps I should just install the 64 bit version of windows 7?

^^ ok I will do that.

BTW can you tell me what is wireless switch switching utility exactly?

Does that mean WIFI will not work? presently all I need to do is turn on the switch knob on the laptop and wifi comes on nicely.

One final thing. What of things like the on screen OSD for when you use the volume button will all those work like original?

And finally does the sony utility and all those cool software also work in your X64 guide?

    Thanks.

WSSU is for switching Wifi/ Bluetooth ON/ OFF independently and to switch frequencies. Wifi will work without any issue. All the other functions including the OSD work perfectly in my FZ with 64-bit Win 7.

The wireless switch setting utility is simply a program that sits in your toolbar where you can specify which wireless devices you want on: 2.4ghz wifi, 5ghz wifi, and/or bluetooth. With WSSU installed you can disable one or the other, without installing it you can only have both wifi and bluetooth on, or both off.

I dont use wifi or bluetooth when im at home, so i decided not to install wssu in windows 7. I might post my win7 install guide for my fz290 32-bit soon, as soon as i can confirm the problem of one issue.
