Hi guys, I will keep it quick and simple. I have a sz650n that will not boot -

Very little water made its way onto the keyboard, and probably leaked down and killed the motherboard. I bought a used motherboard from a semi-local store - same symptoms - few lights come on, fan comes on, no boot. Took motherboard and laptop back to the store, the guy said he tried 2-3 other motherboards, all with the same symptoms. It *is* possible all 3-4 boards he had are bad, but unlikely?

I'm pretty sure the power board is okay. He tried another CPU and memory, same symptoms.

I am looking for any advice you might have. I really need to get it fixed. I am still 99% sure its the motherboard, but the fact that all the ones he tried yielded the same results, maybe something else went out as well?

    Thank you.

Maybe buy the motherboard from someone or some place else, instead of that semi-local store?

    Try a different HDD.
    Try a different AC adapter.
    Try without the battery in.
Try to get into the BIOS.

    Keep trying :)

Do you hear any hard drive activity, or see any activity on the hard drive light?

I found this place on ebay, he's about 1.5 hours away. I tried it there first because I could drive down..

I am thinking too to try a different place, but damn, I learned that those "tested GOOD" is all nonsense anyway, they just sell them and if there is a problem then they worry about it :(

there is no POST, so HD / bios is out of question. battery died from sitting (its about 1.5 years old) so that's a tough one..

    no HD activity

Could one of the modules connecting to the MB be causing this? Like the board that has the power/stamina switcher? It really looks like the mobo is bad, just want to get some confirmation advice before I buy one off the internet...

    :(

Disconnect all non-essential components (nothing should be connected except for the processor, 1 memory stick & the LCD panel (cable/harness) or an external monitor if you have one (some SZs won't have video on the external monitor until you've reached the OS). Short out the CMOS battery for about 30 seconds with the AC adapter & battery disconnected. Connect the AC adapter & try to power on the unit again. You don't need the power board & associated cable/ribbon to be connected because you can just rub a flat-head screwdriver across the power button cable/ribbon socket pins on the motherboard to power the unit on. If this doesn't power it on, THEN you need to try it with the power button board attached. If the unit still doesn't POST & you're positive that the memory & processor are good, the motherboard is almost certainly defective. I would assume that you've already hooked up the unit to an external monitor to be absolutely sure that the issue isn't related to the LCD cable/harness (they have issues with this series).

well the same thing happened to my sz691n/x but I was in ADH warranty. a lot of coke got into mobo thru keyboard. i tried to get it all out but failed. but to recover data, i tried to switch it on next day but what was happening is all lights would come up dimmed and stay that way. so i think what you should do is change the mobo yourself. look here

there's one going for 20$. grab one acc. to your model and definately grab that 20$ one so that at least you can test your system without putting everything in.
