Could someone with New Z run "Power Efficiency Diagnosis"
Start command prompt as Administrator (cmd.exe) and run:
It will generate energy-report.htmlCode:powercfg -energy
Could you please check if the HTML contains something like:
All of the sudden I am getting much less battery life, and I am trying to figure out what is causing the problem...
Thank you very much in advance!
-
it generated very long HTML do you want me to upload the files somewhere?
-
The report contains the following:
-
Thank you!
Hmm... then it's not ASPM... I guess this will end up in OS reinstall then...
My battery life dropped to ~3h 10 min on 100% which is much lower than before.
The only thing I could think of is that the second SSD I put with UltraBay III does not go to sleep.. and X25-E is known to consume lot of power. But still, even that cannot account for such drop...
Weird.. -
By the way, there are ASPM settings in advanced BIOS menu and, if I remember correctly, it is Disabled indeed.
-
Tried forcing ASPM ON from BIOS, but Windows will still disable it for some reason.
But, obviously, if that happens to everybody this is not the problem.
I have few more things to exclude but it will be PITA if the ultrabay and X25-E is the problem
-
Does your model come with the built-in Gobi broadband card? Have you checked to confirm that it is powered off?
-
Yes it comes with Gobi - but it disappears from the device manager and the WWAN connection manager says "no device found", so I assume it is off.
- I reinstalled all drivers & utilities, no help
- Flashed back original BIOS (without advanced mod) - no help
I guess there are only two more options:
1. X25-E in Lenovo UltraBay III is not going into standby
or
2. OS issue, in which case I can do a clean install
To eliminate X25-E issue I will connect it to external power supply via custom cable I made, and I'll check if the power consumption goes down. -
OK, I think I figured out what is wrong...
CPU is constantly working @100% frequency (CPU-z reports 3 GHz!)
When I use PwrTest.exe (WinDDK tool) to see power management info for CPU I get:
And this is ridiculous, there are no P-states in the list!!Code:Processor Performance States PerfStates: Max Transition Latency: 0 us Number of States: 8 State Speed (Mhz) Type ----- ------------ ---- 0 2659 (100%) Throttle 1 2339 ( 87%) Throttle 2 1994 ( 74%) Throttle 3 1675 ( 62%) Throttle 4 1329 ( 49%) Throttle 5 1010 ( 37%) Throttle 6 664 ( 24%) Throttle 7 345 ( 12%) Throttle
I clearly remember CPU going down to 1.1 GHz before I reinstalled Windows... so I made some mistake somewhere... time to trace back my steps...
Need help from VPC-Z (New Z) users
