    Hello people.
Need help or advice. I've become a happy)) user of SonySVS13A2Z9RS notebook with pre installed 256gb SSD hard drive. Now I have a need replace it with a normal 2.5 SSD hard drive with bigger size, but, it becomes a huge headache.
The original sata cable equipped with proprietary LIF socket, so i can't connect sata. Does anybody know - is there any cable for SATA socket or maybe know part number of it ?
In attached pictures below - what i see inside notebook right now.

Oh no! I just order this laptop with a HDD, and bought an SSD to replace it right after I get it. I thought it would be a simple switch out. Does a normal size SSD fit properly? It's just a problem with the cable?

FWIW - I chatted with Sony support to see if I would have this issue on my SVS13A290X (slightly different model than the OP). The support guy said that I would not need a proprietary cable... but I wouldn't put too much weight on that. I'll verify once I receive my laptop.

    12:16 PM Customer:
I'm trying to figure out if the hard drive can be replaced in the SVS13A290X
    12:17 PM Customer:
I've read in some places that it uses a proprietary SATA connections. I wonder if that's true for the SVS13A290X
    12:17 PM Nicholas - (C4YA):
Okay, I'll assist you with this.
    12:19 PM Nicholas - (C4YA):
It is not required to purchase the adapter.
    12:19 PM Nicholas - (C4YA):
Once you get the computer, you can contact our Back Stage support team to get assistance in changing the hard drive with SSD.
    12:20 PM Customer:
Will I be able to do it myself with a normal SSD, or will I have to have a Sony technician do it with Sony parts?
    12:21 PM Nicholas - (C4YA):
Sony doesn't recommend the end user to change/replace the hard drive by themselves as this will void the warranty.
    12:22 PM Nicholas - (C4YA):
It is required to contact our Backstage support team to get assistance regarding this as all the hard drive replacement issues are handled by them.
    12:22 PM Customer:
I understand, but I would still like to know if it’s possble
    12:23 PM Nicholas - (C4YA):
As I've already informed you, changing the hard drive by end user will void the warranty of the computer.
    12:23 PM Customer:
That's fine, but is it possible?
    12:24 PM Customer:
possible to change the hard drive with a standard SSD
    12:24 PM Nicholas - (C4YA):
    Yes, it is possible.

I've just solved this problem for my SVS13A25PXB computer that had 12GB of Ram and a proprietary 256GB SSD drive. This is the newer 2013 - thin notebook with an I-7 processor. The SSD has a proprietary LIF connector and flat ribbon cable. Sony said it cannot be changed, and they could not provide the part number (many calls to get the same answer). However, I found the same computer exists in a different model with a traditional 2.5" HD. So I searched for hdd cables for the other models and found one that looked the same.

I found a part dealer who sold me the A1881851A SONY VAIO SVS13 V120_DVT_HDD FPC L_GR Flex Cable 1P-1123X08-2111 - on e-bay. ebay seller: parts_direct101.

The cable looks VERY different from the one in the PC because the drive is turned in the opposite direction. Once you realize this, it is a 5 minute change out - two screws to remove the panel, 4 screws on the old drive, two on the connector.

I replaced the 256 with a Samsung 1TB EVO SSD, using their software to move my image from the old SSD to the new drive (needed a cheap USB Case).

It works flawlessly, and now the notebook has a 1TB SSD. When coupled with the 1 TB drive in the docking station, I have 2 TB of storage - or an archival drive.

So persistence pays off in this case. I've been wanting to make this change for 2 years - since I got the PC but couldn't get the information I needed to make this happen.
