I just reformatted my windows vista business to 7, but, I don't have any of the drivers. I have a Sony Vaio VGN-SZ660N. I decided that I wanted to go back to vista, but when I tried the system restore function on the system recovery tool thing at the start of my laptop, it says that "sustem drive is too small or not there. Please insert recovery disk 1...". I don't even have the recover disk for my laptop either, does anyone know how to fix that? If not, can someone please tell me where to get the drivers for 7 for my laptop?

I suspect you damaged the recovery partition when you installed Win7...

Without the discs you won't be able to instal Vista unless you have a Vista disc.

    On the drivers:
if you search NBR, it can be done and people have posted about Win7 on an SZ here in the Sony Subforum.

Do you know if there is a way I could fix my recovery partition? Because when i look at them, there's on that is reserved and says "recovery" on it so, I was wondering if I could fix that or something. Or, is there a way I could make a recovery CD? Because I have no way of buying stuff because I am low on money. Thanks for the help so far. :D

Hmm, you can try running the utility designed to create recovery discs which is the Vaio Recovery Centre I think.

I am sorry to say that I do not have that utility, does that mean that I am screwed?

If you don't have the Vaio Recovery Centre or how its called you're in trouble.

Try getting one via the Sony Support site - you can download it from there.

Thanks for the tip, but, I am wondering, if I make a recovery disk using using tht utility, won't that mean that i try to use it, I will only make a disk for Win7 and not Vista?

Well, if you have the recovery partition it will contain Vista rather than Win7.

The Recovery Partition is created by the manufacturer not the installation proces.

Hi I was wondering how big of a CD do you think it will take to make an image disk? Because when I put in my CD's that I have, it says "backup failed, not enough disk space to create the volume shadow copy on the storage location. Make sure that, all volumes...." I honestly do not understand any of this, can you please explain the shadow copy thing?

The shadow copy occurs on your hard drive, not your CD. It's your HD that doesn't have enough space!

When a file is in use, it can't safely be copied because it may change while it's being copied, which leads to an invalid copy. So what Windows does is creating a "shadow copy" of all the files that are in use, which are going to be static and valid for the backup. But to do this, it needs enough free space to create the shadow copies.

Try to free up space, and close down apps that are loaded (to reduce the number of open files). Pretty much everything you have in the system tray can safely be closed.

Interms of CDs - the Vaio recovery programme needs two DVDs (or 1 DL DVD which failoed for me)

I repeat: Try to free up space.
You need at least as much free space as one DVD plus space for shadow copies of all open files.

Hmmm, I have freed up as much space as I can, I guess I can't make a CD...
