Hi, I have been trying to search the forum on ways to how to install the ssd but the threads were more on the ssds version with disc drives. I currently have a vaio z115 which is the hdd version with no disc drive. I have not opened the laptop yet but I wish to upgrade my hdd to a ssd and hopefully add 2 more ssds into it which would turn it into a 3 ssd laptop. is there anyone that can help me with the procedure?

I didn't even know Sony released a VPCZ1 series with a hard drive version..if it has a standard 2.5" drive bay then I would assume that it should be user-replaceable. I looked on google and I wasn't able to find much info for this model..how does the bottom look like? Does it only have a compartment for the RAM?

Also, how do you plan on installing 3 SSD's? Doesn't it only have 1 drive bay? I don't think you can install SSD's in RAID like the newer Z's because this looks like it's entirely different..

Also, you may be out of luck as the HDD version of the non-usa Z1x uses a cable that plugs into the same sata port as our 1.8". You'd have to aquire another ribbon cable, but international posters seem to have a very hard time finding it.

But he doesn't have the SSD model, I don't think his Z has a place for 1.8" drives...or does it?

it does have a place for it, what it's missing is the right cable to utilize that space which will be almost impossible to find. Even in the USA the cable lists as out of stock, overseas it's even harder to find.

Right now your 2.5" HDD is where the optical drive is on SSD Z models. If you take your laptop apart (a few threads on how to do this) you can replace your 2.5" HDD with a 2.5" SSD. On models that have SSD from the factory, they use two 1.8" SSD in Raid0 which are located in the area under the trackpad/ palmrest. In theory you could place two more SSD there, but other members have said it's hard to find the cable, and also the official SSD replacements are very expensive: about $500+ for 128GB and higher configurations. However, other members have tried installing non Sony purchased SSDs with varying levels of success in another thread.
