Buying my first Sony laptop, don't have a Sony store nearby to check in person and would really appreciate a high resolution digital picture of part of a Z laptop screen, with either high resolution (1600x900) or standard screen, better both. I want to see how good it is for reading text. Thanks!

Thanks, but I am looking for a close-up pic of a small part of the screen (corner?), to see how sharp/crisp is text. I got spoiled by 1920x1200 screen on my 15.4 inch laptop and want my new laptop to have text that is as crisp.

...Oh wow... that's gonna be small.

I better not regret getting the large res over the small... but I browse off my PSP sometimes... so maybe I can handle it... >_<

thanks, lamtutu! Looks good, so this is a photo made by digicam, not a screen grab, right?

That's a screen cap no matter how you look at it.

Screenshot gives me idea of pixel size but to check screen contrast and readability I need actual picture taken with a camera

Well... if there's no camera shots... this might work:

Measure out the Z's physical screen dimensions on a section of your screen. Take that screen cap, and resize to fit thatever space that is on your screen. That's probably about what the Z would look like?

    Crude... but effective?

...Seriously though. You should be searching within the Official Vaio Z owners thread, or the Z screen comparisons thread. Both should have tons of pics.

No one took geometry in high school? First, figure out DPI of the screen that the original poster is used to -- 1900x1200 at 15.4 inch. pythagoras theorem is a^2+b^2=c^2. In this case a is unknown, b = (19/12)*a, and c is 15.4". Solve for that & you find out that the 15.4" screen is 13.048" or so across. 1900 / 13.048 = about 146 dpi. Do the same for the Z with a 13.1" screen, 16/9 ratio, and you find out that it's 140 dpi.

So in other words, the Z will be almost as sharp as what he's used to.

This is correct if we assume that all LCDs are created equal aside from resolution. I had 1650x900 or close to it once on 15 inch screen, and while pixel density was high text looked fuzzy at native resolution. I think that while higher pixel density does help, contrast ratio makes bigger contribution to overall perception that screen is sharp
