    I'm generally wary of generic batteries. There's a reason they're cheaper--they are not made with the same high quality and safety standards of the branded batteries.

    The battery guide goes into more detail about why it's safer to go with Sony batteries.

    Hi,
    I have only good experiences with generic batteries. The trick is to disable the ISBMgr service as it checks for the presence of genuine Sony batteries and will shut the machine down.
    If you insist on the Sony brand, I found that there are Circuit City stores that have the extended battery that is branded for the S series (the generation before the SZ) at extremely good prices. I personally bought 2 for less then $130 each. Even though they mention that they are for the S series they work just fine on the SZ series as they the same shape, size and spec.
