I have the TZ190 and 32 GB just isn't enough for me. Is there anyway I can add on about 4-8 GB, like some type of card or something?

Yes, you can use Expresscard SSDs and memory sticks and SD memory cards to increase the space without anything sticking out.

Also, is 4 GB the biggest you can get? The biggest ones I've seen are 4 GB.

So is the ExpressCard heavy or something? And harder to install than a memory stick?

Sorry, I'm kinda stupid about this stuff. What is the difference between them?

Just stick it in ExpressCard are plug and play. It's just small as your palm while memory stick is small like your thumb.

The Expresscard slot is right to the left of the USB ports and a bit down, see?
Just stick an Expresscard SSD in there just like a memory stick or SD card in your memory stick slot in the front of the laptop, plug and play.

And what an Expresscard SSD looks like
    [IMG]

You could stick in both a memory stick and SD (Secure Digital) memory card in the laptop at the same time and with the Expresscard SSD, you can really increase your space!

Oh ok, I see now! Thank you both so much for all your help!

Is the ExpressCard card a lot faster than a memory stick? And what brand do you recommend?

Holy cow, thats alot of way to increase space in the tz190
My tz190 is being delivered and can't wait to get these.

    so you can get:
    1. 32SSD express card
    2. 8gb pro duo
    3. another 8 gb pro duo

does the tz190 have 2 pro duo card slot?

No, it only has one memory stick slot. Remember that it can take the regular sized memory sticks and the half-sized memory stick duos.

Right below or above the memory stick slot is an SD card slot which will take SD cards.

does the expresscard stick out of the tz or does it go snuggly in perfectly wihtout a nanometer sticking out? and i just read a review on the transcend 32gb ssd expresscard and it saids it sucks. write speed is so slow. is an expresscard SSD slower than an internal SSDrive?

I have also read reviews of the Expresscard SSDs being slow and yes, these will never be faster than an internal SSD drive. I don't think it sticks out, it should sit in flush with the notebook, as would the SD cards and memory sticks.

So is the ExpressCard SSD even slower than a memory stick?

And what does an SD card look like? Can you give me a link?

emily, the Expresscard is very slow, probably as slow as the MemoryStick or SD card. They are best used for files that don't change much, like your iTunes music library or your pictures folder.

I have this 8GB SD card, which, as you can see, is quite a bit cheaper than the same-size MemoryStick:

    http://www.ecost.com/detail.aspx?edp=36985016&source=EWBBASE&ci_src=17588969&ci_sku=36985016

I can't believe how cheap they've gotten! I paid about $115 for the same card, just two months ago! So that's good news for you. :D

    Hope that helps. :)

On the TZ190 the ExpressCard slot takes type 34 cards and is connected to the Northbridge by BOTH PCIe and USB. I would then tend to think that the design is intended to use the PCIe interface to transfer data which would make the ExpressCard SSD much faster than your memory stick, but if it transfer data using the USB connection that would actually be slower since the memory stick reader controller is on regular PCI. So try it out and let us know.

Thanks! I basically want it to put my music on it and I'll be accessing it quite a bit and playing the music directly from the card. So which one do you think would work the best for that?

Edit: I probably won't even do this but is it possible to install programs on these type of memory cards? I'm already down to 1.5 GB and have a couple more programs I'd like to install. I didn't realize how little space 32GB was when I ordered my laptop. It only had like 6 GB left as soon as I opened it. Horrible!

Thanks! Wow, only $64? Pretty good...

But why does that one cost so much less than one like this? They're both 8 GB... http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/t...2941?_encoding=UTF8&m=A2CT3PWBGDZXM8&v=glance

Its shouldn't slower than a memory stick. it should perform similar to any decent flash storage card (sony memory stick, SD card, compact flash card etc).

Unlike SATA SSD hard drives, most ExpressCard SSD (like Lexar EC SSD 16gb) are interpolated through USB 2.0 rather than PCI express. so the bandwidth is limited to around 480mbps instead of 1.5gbps or 3.0gbps for SATA. I am not sure if there is any ExpressCard SSD that offer a true PCI-E version (2.4gbps).

here is a link to 4gb SD card, about $24

yes, it works fine in your laptop. just keep in mind that it will be much slower than your current SSD hard drive or a 4200rpm drive. I am expecting the read/write speed to be somewhere at 10mbps/5mbps. which should be fine for general storage or backup purpose. you "MAY" see some pause when play large video file on these.

Does it stick out at all? I like that the 2 GB MS Pro Duo hides away for ready boost in a slot I'll never use flush with the computer, it maintains the computers clean lines and portability. I would like to grab a 16gb SSD Expresscard drive for downloads and torrents. How cheap can I get a 32gb Expresscard SSD for?
