maybe state which language of OS and applications you prefer?
as far as i know, this can't be changed arbitrarily.

"You will need to upgrade to Windows 7 Ultimate for this capability. Only Windows 7 Ultimate includes Multilingual User Interface (Language Pack) support. You can then install the English Language Pack from under Regional and Language settings in Control Panel. "

    Additionally,
I think it's problematic to use recovery disc of another user, since
serial numbers of some applications will be the same.

You could always just download a version of windows 7 and install it using the windows key which you can find on the bottom of your vaio.
You can then do a fresh install and download vaio control center and the like
    from sony support website.

    that's strange.
it should work (should install at least, with activation pending).

"Yes, you can use a regular Windows 7 retail DVD and a genuine Windows 7 OEM product key to perform a "clean install"> However, when it comes time to perform product activation, you'll need to use the "activate by phone" method."

Are you sure, that your preinstalled system was win 7 professional and not home premium?

    Well...
This is easy to tell: the Windows type is noted on the sticker which includes the product key you are using.

You can also try different route:
Not sure if it is illegal, but I do have valid license so...
I've downloaded a Window installation which includes OEM SLIC awareness. The installation (some script) checks your BIOS for manufacturer SLIC key. If this is the case, it uses the product key + certificates (to activate it) as if the laptop was delivered from the manufacturer. So no need to activate it and also no need to enter a product-key. The same would happen when doing the official recovery via recovery partition.

That is just a matter of installing all the drivers and software from Sony website...
I would definitely suggest to go for clean install since the quite huge boot and performance improvement.
