Does anyone know of a place that has new or used motherboards for a Sony VAIO VGN-S580P for a reasonable price? So far lowest I have found is 425 bucks, still a bit steep for a laptop of 2+ years old.

BTW..I had my laptop sent in to Pell Technology for repair...what a nightmare these people. Strung me long for weeks and weeks on end saying that "the technician is still working on it". After a few months I had enough of it and told them to ship it back...then they finally came back with "it is beyond repair". A UPS label was created and charged to my card that same day...but it took another 4 weeks before they shipped it!

I think ebay is the best place to look as sony can charge in excess of $1000

    425 seems pretty reasonable:\

    More about " Pell Technology"
They kept my laptop for 3-4 months and asked me to pay $495 for motherboard replacement (they say), after one more month when I asked if they repaired it they said they don't have the parts, I waited about 2 more weeks and they send the laptop back, (NOT fixed).
Now they will not send me the money back, it is over 2 months since I made this payment, they keep saying that they will refund but they don't do it :(
10 days ago someone finally answered the phone and asked for the full card number and invoice number and said I will see the refund in few days... they lied again.
As far as I am concerned this is fraud.

if its costs that much...just take the harddrive out and get the files you need. buy a new laptop :) paying 400+ for ONE part plus installation fees plus hassels is not worth it. pay 300 more and get a new laptop like the NR or CR or spend a couple more hundred and grab an FW or an SR.
