I just got an SZ660 couple days ago and have been uninstalling some of the software to speed it up.

Everything was going great until tonight when I came home to turn on my laptop. Something with my network is acting really weird.

The icon in the task tray shows the disconnect symbol and I can't even load the network properties page from control panel.

In addition, I'm trying to make recovery discs but it's hanging from the very start and my whole system is just chugging right now.

Funny thing is that I'm still connected to my wireless and smartwi shows I'm connected.

I don't think I did anything weird since the last time I used my laptop. Also if I hover over the disconnect icon, it will say "server connection failure" / "network: unknown"

Any idea what's going on? I'm thinking of doing a full restore but I cna't even make the recovery discs right now. argh.

Edit: also, how long does it take to make the recovery discs?

Create your recovery disks first, no questions asked. I dont remember how long it takes but its not long...maybe 20 minutes at most.

I am not so sure about your network issues, perhaps try reinstalling the appropriate drivers from Sony's site. Search for " sony esupport " and it will take you to Sony's eSupport page,...just type in your model number, and click for the drivers...download the appropriate ones, restart your computer, see what happens.
