I recently sold a TZ to a member on this forum, and he is experiencing some network issues. As he described, the network connections abruptly stopped working after the first restart. It will not connect to any networks whether directly or through wireless, and he is unable to open up the network and sharing center. I have a feeling this might be an issue with Windows Vista, but cannot be sure. Has anyone experienced this sort of thing? If so, what did you do to resolve it?

Hi I'm the member Sponsi's talking about.

I talked to Sony about it and they told me that it might've been an error in the recovery partition software and that I should buy one from Sony to make sure it's ok.

Instead I did a system restore to last night when it was last working, and everything start working again. One thing I overlooked was the programs I installed. This happened to me twice. I did a semi-clean install after receiving the notebook and then I installed Winamp, AIM, and Gomplayer. After restarting my computer my internet would no longer work, even though I was connected before the restart. As a result I did a semi-clean, again, and last night I installed the above three programs. This time I didn't restart, however, and everything worked ok. When I went to sleep I turned off the laptop and when I turned it back on this morning my internet wouldn't work again.

Are there any known compatibility issues with Vista for: AIM 6.5, Winamp 5.5, or Gom player?

there are compatibility issues w/ Vista and GOM. Look at the GOM technical forum for more infor

you might try VLC, it's a great program

then if thats not it, narrow it on down by just installing 1 program at a time

if i install all three, and then begin to delete one at a time and restart to see if it works, it does not. i'm assuming that installing it is what messes up the networking, so even if i uninstall it, it's already messed up.

i'll look into the GOM technical forum, thanks for the advice.

my plan for now is to install one at a time, and restart, and see when it stops working. but if anyone else has any suggestions or answers, please do tell

i installed Gom. restarted. internet stopped working. did system restore

internet is working now, none of the 3 programs installed. installed AIM. restarted. internet stops working. did system restore again. repeated for winamp, same thing.

it's like if I install a program, my internet stops working.

if i try to right click the icon in the taskbar, it pops up a menu that lets me choose "show connections" or something, but when I click it nothing happens. i try to go to network and connections center through control panel, but it just freezes and never loads. in addition, when I was getting these errors I went to my Vaio Recovery folder to load the launcher.exe and reinstall the drivers, but then when I tried to open up the "reinstall programs and drivers" portion, it runs into an error, but when I do a system restore I can go to the list of programs/drivers just fine.

i'm stumped here. I don't want to pay 20 dollars for "official" sony recovery CD"s when I was told to burn a copy using the recovery portion on the laptop.

i got my internet itself to actually work. but a lot of other options don't.

before installin the programs, i could enter the vaio recovery launcher.exe. but now it says "launcher.exe has stopped working"

it does not let me go into the network and sharing center for control panel, nor enable/disable/choose my wireless connection in the taskbar.

but my internet works. have there been any known issues with vista like this?
