After installing the new BIOS, I lost the ability to use the "Fn" key and the shortcut s1 and s2 buttons. Meaning I can't lower/raise the screen birghtness and volume.
I went into vaio central to try to program the shortcut bottuns but I get an error that says "you can't launch."
Any help is appreciated.

Same thing happened to me. Press the S1 button multiple times until the balloon appears. Click on the balloon and get the dialog box offering options. Change the default S1 and S2 to something else, click apply. Then revert back to the default, click apply. Should work fine. At least it did for me. Seems that the settings can be lost.

What about your function keys?
I'll try what you suggested. -
if bios was installed correctly, nothing should happen. Sounds like an isolated issue

hey i just noticed my SZ wont hibernate anymore.
-
My S1/S2 and function buttons work just fine after the BIOS update as well as the new graphics driver install.
-
mine hybernates. But now that I know how much the USB bug can cause battery drain, I try my D a r n e d e s t not use hybernate or standby
-
ok i fixed it. it turns out if i have my notbook set to hibernate never, it will offset the setting i used when closing the lid. So i set it to 6 hours on battery and now it works fine.

I think I'm the only one with this issue. So I think I will just backup my data and do a semi-clean install like when I first received the notebook.
Will a reformat bring it back to the original BIOS? -

the bios will be the same. but it should restore your settings

FenderP, did you do your bios update from the Dynamism CD? I received one with Ghost image. Don't want to do a complete rebuild!!!!!!!! Seems like I should be able to update bios w/o complete rebuild. Is that what you did for your SZ90? Thanks!

I just ran the SZ90 update which I downloaded from the Sony Japan site and it works just fine. No problems. -
After hearing about one person's SZ90 not able to restart after bios update, can someone verify that the bios upgrade is the same for all SZ models? Note the comment:

I don't see SZ90 in this list. I don't want to just presume and shot myself in the foot. -

Do you have a URL for the SZ90 bios and drivers update? When i search for sony japan, i get alot of japanese!!!
Thanks!

OK, I figured it out. Found the bios update here:
http://babelfish.altavista.com/babe...cl.vaio.sony.co.jp/download/SP-010412-17.html
Installed without a hitch.
I also installed the Wireless update from here with no probs:

New BIOS = new problems?
