Ye we saw this ages ago! Currently selling in Germany and Spain! According to Sony sales reps I spoke to and sales people at Sony Style this model will not be selling in the UK, but is available from:
http://www.notebook.de/sony-vaio-vgn-fw11j-mit-intel-core2duo-p8400-226-ghz-p-13560/
This sells for 1239.00 euro’s with the additional 89 euro’s for an English keyboard! Wish it did sell in the UK! but I am already committed to the FW11S! The only other model to sell with the ATI HD3650 is the FW11ZU! -
It's not available yet, in 3 weeks it will be.
-
No way!!
Well I don’t play games anyway so I won’t need the ATI HD3650! I’ve traded the 3650 for bluray write capabilities! Hmmm but it may have been usfull to have the better GPU, as it would have been future proof! Maybe the notebook would have been cheaper than my Fw11S as well! As your price seems high compared to Germanys cheaper sites!
Where did you hear about this ? -
Dutch forums. But if you don't play games it makes no sense for you.
-
It kind of does as I will need to use my notebook for such applications as autodesk revit, CAD and other programs that require renderings for buildings! These are quite GPU intensive tasks. My Dv2000 with Intel’s GMA struggled to run Google sketch up, so I wonder how the ATI 3470 would handle such programs
Anyway if that was cheaper than the FW11S and FW11ZU then that would be worth it. THOES BESIDE AND THE FW11J are the only models to come with the Dual Lamp displays that I really wanted! -
Man, I wish we had FW model with HD3650 in the US. With 3650, FW would have been perfect.
-
-
why not get the ZU with a better processor
-
Cause a P8400 is fast enough, for games the GPU is the bottleneck.
-
-
Very weird, because with the Z series it's the other way around. Japan and US get bluray and SSD models, Europe none.
-
InfyMcGirk while(!(succeed=try()));
... which works as an excuse for no Blu-ray offering, but surely high-end business users are pretty much the only market for SSDs!?
Personally, I think they use some weird random generator to come up with the different models for different markets. I certainly can't see any logic behind the lineups and the Sony explanations don't make sense either. -
Awww man! I read only "New FW model with ATI HD3650" and I thought they finally brought it to North America. I was just about to pack up my current FW and send it back.
-
Didn't want to give anyone false hope that's why I put Europe in the title. I'll move Europe to the front
-
Here it is even cheaper!!

With the HD3650, it would have been a great notebook. That's just enough to play some of my favorite games.

Any news on this? It is now shipping in Germany. Will it be available to the Dutch market?
I'm doubting between waiting and hoping it will become available, or getting the FW11S. FW11S has XBrite, Blu-Ray ReWriter, 300 GB 4200 RPM and ATI Radeon 3470.
FW11J has XBrite, Blu-Ray Read, 250 GB 5400 RPM and ATI Radeon 3650. What will be better? Waiting for the FW11J? Or just getting the FW11S. The FW11S is €100,- more expensive than the FW11J (if it will be released in the Netherlands, that is). I want a new notebook, now! But I hate the 4200 RPM drive on the FW11S and I don't have the money to be upgrading to a 7200 RPM one soon...Any suggestions?
-
God I hope they're gonna release it in Sweden. Does anyone here know if its gonna be released in the whole of Europe or just in some specific countries?
-
what is the widest though, is on the high end version in the UK, they offer a 4200 RPM hdd- high end, super slow is what it is, if someone posts pictures of a ssd replacement howto- I might get it, now- not a even a remote possibility
-
Exchanging the hard drive on the FW is really easy. Opening a couple of screws and you have direct access to the hard drive, unlike the Z or TZ for example.
The FW-J is now in stock at Notebook.de -
Hi from spain guys, here in spain the prices of the different models are this:
FW11J --> Card Ati HD 3650 + 4GB + LCD Double lamp + 250GB + Read BlueRay/Record DVD/CD = 1088 Euros (MCS-N.com)
FW11L--> Tarjeta Ati HD 3470 + 2GB + LCD Without Double lamp + 250GB + Read BlueRay/Record DVD/CD = 1090 Euros (MCS-N.com)
FW11M--> Tarjeta Ati HD 3470 + 4GB + LCD Without Double lamp + 250GB + Read BlueRay/Record DVD/CD = 1148 Euros (MCS-N.com)
FW11S--> Tarjeta Ati HD 3470 + 4GB + LCD Double lamp + 300GB + Record BlueRay/DVD/CD = 1277 Euros (MCS-N.com)
This is very strange, why FW11J is cheaper?, we think this model don´t have double lamp (sorry for my english), in the sony spanish web, the model appears having this technology but in the main aspects don´t mention this.
What do you think?
Thanks in advance guys.

The FW11J does have double lamp technology. I am waiting for it to be released in the Netherlands, íf it will be released though.
