plugged in, not charging is what it says...

    hovers around 80% though

I know the battery life on this thing is what it is, but starting off at 80% can't help.

Is this a battery conditioning thing? Or bum battery?

Battery Care dude. It's in the VAIO Control Center under power management. Can I be a Notebook Deity now ? Jk.

    beautiful, thanks

I figured something normal was going on, since it was rock steady 80-81%

after this job I will have to spend some time poking around this thing a little,

you are a deity in my book ;)

Have fun checking out your new VAIO F. All these relatively new VAIO's have this battery care feature. Judging by your signature, it seems a few VAIO's need to be added to that list, and maybe put that VAIO F notebook at the top, especially over that MBP. Thanks for the Honorary Deity appointment.

Would it not be better to ask the question in the main F-series forum than create a catchy titled whole new thread ? Especially for such a "problem" with an easy solution ?

I'd cut him some slack. After all, he did come from one of those Apple products to a far superior and technologically advanced Sony VAIO. He's learning.

you should leave it to charge to 40% unless you travel with your machine a lot. the battery will last much longer than normal.

It also states in the sony manual somewhere that it will not allow the battery to charge more then 80% under cold conditions(for a safety or long lasting reason). It doesn't have any relevance to your case but thought I might add it.
