Ok, so I bought the FW160D the day before I moved. It worked perfectly on the network I first connected to, and now in my new house, it WAS working fine. But then, when I was downloading something, the speeds kept going up, then down to 0, then start again, then back to 0 10 seconds later. I\d reset the (brand new) router, and the modem, and then it would work good for about 5 minutes, then it would start acting funny again. Now, it's pretty much dead. It'll work for about 10 minutes, then NOTHING will work. Downloads, web surfing, msn, nothing. But, I just tried plugging it in through the ethernet, and everything is working fantastic. What's going on with it?

I should also mention that when I do the 'Diagnose and repair' in Vista, it says that 'An installed layered service provider is outdated'. As well, even when the laptop says it IS connected to the internet, it doesn't work.

You could try installing the latest Intel drivers for your wireless card? Have you double checked the settings of your new router are the same as on your previous, working wlan?

On the FW160D though (at least the one I got), the wireless card is an Atheros AR928x, and the drivers are fully up to date.

Then my only suggestion is fiddling with settings etc. :(

Yea, I'll see what I can do. I have no clue why this isn't working, and it's a massive shame as well, since the laptop is amazing.

As well... should the slot where the power cord goes in be slightly loose?

I don't think it matters too much so long as the connection isn't flakey. I've seen a solution in another thread on here using some sort of metallic (conductive) tape wrapped around the connector.

Out of interest, have you got any other devices working with that router with these settings? I've read that setting MTU slightly lower than the default can help in some cases. Good luck!

hmmn the atheros actually might be the issue. Call customer service, maybe you can get them to replace it with the intel card(muchhh better).

to confirm a few things, ping the router address after you restart it and see how long it takes to send packages. then get into the settings of the router and check that its not doing something that your wireless will not be able to pick up.

also try using a different laptop, friends and whatnot to connect with the router to figure out where the issue is originating.
