Red_Dragon Notebook Nobel Laureate
Wow Merry christmas!
to you and sony, i hope this mean 4000 series ATI GPU.
*waits patiently* -
Hmm interesting ... I was about to pull the trigger for a FW290 but I guess I can wait a bit longer.
-
Red_Dragon Notebook Nobel Laureate
wait, because every model update had a new GPU 190 = 3470 290=3650 390=4670?(that would be good enough)
-
There was a link in the FW thread with the FW 390 CTO:
http://www.sonystyle.com/webapp/wcs...Id=20153&langId=-1&LBomId=8198552921665751055
So far the new options I see are:
CPU:
- 2.66 GHz
- 2.93 GHz
RAM:
- 6 GB
Hard Drive:
- 400 GB / 500 GB (both at 5400 rpm)
- 128 SSD -
Red_Dragon Notebook Nobel Laureate
....what? how could this notebook be out of stock?
Anyway MAN that 2.93ghz processor is the REAL deal also 128gb SSD i hop this is a cheap option but it is RAID so it wont be that will make this light notebook even lighter -
Optical:
Blu-ray\32 / SP09-IRX4670
Blu-ray\64 / SP09-IRX4670
BDROM\32 / SP09-IRX4670
BDROM\64 / SP09-IRX4670
Graphics Card:
ATI\64OS / SP09-IRX4670
ATI\32OS / SP09-IRX4670
Int\64OS / SP09-IRX4670

Anyways, it's definitely in the works:
http://www.xbitlabs.com/news/video/...adies_Dual_Chip_Mobile_Graphics_Solution.html -
We will be seeing the Radeon 4000 series in notebooks soon. There is already the MSI GT725 with the Radeon 4850 on preorder through Amazon.
So I wouldn't be surprised if these new FW300 models will be using the new Radeon 4000 series as well.
http://www.amazon.com/MSI-GT725-075...1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1230227691&sr=8-1
http://www.amazon.com/MSI-GT725-074...2?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1230227691&sr=8-2 -
Well, the MSI GX623 will also feature Radeon 4670 as well:
http://global.msi.com.tw/index.php?func=proddesc&maincat_no=135&cat2_no=271&prod_no=1702 -
Newegg is now selling them, but not for the highest model:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834117852
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834117857 -
, was hoping the new one, would have the headphone jacks to the side, not the front...would make it so much more appealing to me
-
So what are the differences between this model and the 290?

For some reason, the specifications mention an external Ati graphics card. Anyone else see this? (link above)
-
http://training.b2b.sony.com/VAIO_computers/Notebooks/FW300_series_training2.cfm
and here's the link where they mention an external card for the FW100 series
http://training.b2b.sony.com/VAIO_computers/Notebooks/FW100_series_training2.cfm
FW100 doesn't have an external card, it has an internal dedicated card. So, I think when they say external card, what they really mean is an internal dedicated card, as opposed to integrated card like Intel X4500HD. -
i just bought a FW285DH from sony canada, am i missing any new features compared to the new FW3XX series?
-
Is it me or the VGN-FW373J/B a pretty good deal?
-
Red_Dragon Notebook Nobel Laureate
msi has a 4670 AND 4850 notebook coming out this month im sure thats what this is. It's extremely exciting as the msi 16" notebook with 4670 weighs less the 6 pounds making it one of the lightest 16" notebooks so this will be an interesting showdown between these two.
this will be good as well also look at performance wise the 4670 outperforms the 3850 in some games so lets see how this plays outi want to see more colors for the FW though give me a red vaio FW i'd love that
-
I actually ordered one of those today from Newegg. It has everything I was looking for in an FW, which I decided on a few weeks ago. Its a good deal now, but if you bought a FW290 cto before christmas you probably could have gotten the same specs but for a cheaper price, what with the various coupons and discounts that sony style had on the 290 cto. But those are gone now.
Nobody seems to know if there will be better deals or not in the immediate future, since sony is getting ready to release new models. $1250 seems like a decent price to me. I don't buy computers very often, I've had my desktop for 8 years... -
SonyStyle canceled my order like a-holes, but whatever. -

@reddragon
May I ask where did you find these benchmarks? Because I cannot see a 128 bit card beating a 256 bit one. Thats like a 8700M GT beating a 9700M GTS. -
Red_Dragon Notebook Nobel Laureate
sure here you are it clearly shows that the 4670 beats the 3850 in some games:
http://www.anandtech.com/video/showdoc.aspx?i=3405&p=6
dont let the door hit you too hard plasma
256 bit doesnt mean squat it really depends on how demanding the game is the future is 256 but that future isnt here yet. -
Because honestly, it is a lot more work to go back and reread your info.
I love how people forget forums are about efficiency. It can be a 50 page thread and someone will tell you to go back in the thread. -
Speaking about efficiency, it is more efficient to refer people to my original thread because I posted everything people need to know about the new FW300 models. I spent a lot of time researching for FW300 and I compiled everything in one message for easy search. -
-
Any updates on the new FW notebook?
-
The FW373 seems to be the best deal right now, having the FullHD screen as well. I'm surprised it's already up on newegg. Do they have it in stock?
http://www.docs.sony.com/release/SPECS/VGNFW373JB_mksp.pdf
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834117857
This is not a very bad deal either, though the ECO screen is a turn off for me.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834117852
Didn't know the T6400 CPU was already available. -
Anybody know when the new FW300 series will be out.. CTO model..
-
Just talk to the sales representative about my retuned laptop, she said that they are all of stock for the FW290 CTO ( Out of black option, out of HD screen also). But it will be replace with the new model..
She said that it will be avaliable within one week from today. But she said that FW300 series, everything seem to be the same as far as hardware.. but just a different model number. -
-
You're telling me, it was more efficient for you to type the above quoted, than to type yes or no?
Or you could of responded with YES OR NO, and then referred back to your post.
Like I said, people forget forums are just...forums! "It can be a 50 page thread and someone will tell you to go back in the thread." -
Found a link to the Canadian sonystyle. It is the FW390 CTO. Hopefully it will come out soon. http://www.sonystyle.com/webapp/wcs...Id=20153&IangId=-1&LBomId=8198552921665751055

If you expect people to do all the work for you, this forum is not the place to be. Call Sony and ask them! -
I'm not expecting anyone to do "all the work" for me. However, forums are the place to be to get useful information, and there are many people who are happy to do so because of they are what I like to call enthusiasts. It's odd how you're saying that this is not the forum to be at if I'm expecting all the people do the work for me, when you were just boasting about compiling all that information.
Point blank, it would have been easier to just respond with yes or no, and then refer back to the main page. It gets irritating for myself when I actually search (not only here but many forums), and I run into a bunch of people saying to search, or go back, or search some more, or it's been covered, etc. That is not efficient. Forums are about abundant amount of information, and regardless of how many times you give it, it will be more abundant and therefore easier for the next person. Instead of just directing people to go do something else, you can just give the answer and redirect. -
Now, if you still are too lazy to find out the answer to your question in a 2 page pdf spec, then call Sony and ask them. And get out of my thread! -
Anyways, you're telling me you had more time to type up all these posts than to answer yes, or no?
I think we might of possibly had a misunderstanding though. I had thought you knew the answer to my question, but you were simply referring me back. However, I 'm not sure you knew the answer, so you referred me back to get the answer, which is obviously not a deal since you did not know it. You did never state if you knew the answer or not.
I'm just stating that if you actually KNOW the answer, why not give it? -
