Sony set to introduce VAIO FZ2 laptops
    [IMG]

It's not all that long ago that Sony bumped its VAIO FZ laptops into Santa Rosa territory, but it seems that the company is planning to expand the line even further, with Notebook Italia today getting word of a pair of new FZ2 series laptops. As with its current FZ offerings, these new laptops will each pack 15.4-inch WXGA displays, but they get an upgrade in the processor department to your choice of Core 2 Duo T7250 or T7500, along with NVIDIA GeForce 8400 GT graphics on the higher-end of the two, 2GB of RAM, a 250GB hard drive, and your choice of Blu-ray or DVD combo drives. No word on a release date just yet, it seems, but they'll apparently set you back $1,299 or $1,399 depending on the configuration.

I don't see no difference what so ever with the current FZ's. I think thats a load of crap tbh. I mean, why release a new notebook which looks exactly like the old generation and also has the same damn specs lol. Gotta be wrong.

Better processors, spacious hard drive and cheaper blu-ray option.

I can't believe the top end blu-ray equipped unit is so cheap.

the price isnt right. BBfb has the fz285 listed at $2093.

There is absolutely no way in hell they are going to price a comp with BR under the comps without it.

Something wired!!!! First, no any clear indication that this is a new generation of the FZ. Second, I can't believe that a model (listed at the top) and with Nvidia card and BD is cheaper that models with graphic accelerator and DVD drive!!

In fact it is not a new generation of FZ, just a refresh. The real news is this:
that is the new processor which will take the place of T7100. Anyway previous news about T7250 indicated an L2 Cache of 2 Mb, instead of 4Mb indicated in this model' specs. No other significant innovations, but the new HDD and the web cam 0,3 Mpixel->1,3 Mpixel.
For the price, remember this is the b2b site, so to know real prices for consumer we'll have to wait!

So now I am REALLY confused. Why are the FZ2 models several hundred dollars cheaper than the FZ190's for example? Am I overlloking something?

Make a comparison between VGN-FZ240E/B and VGN-FZ140E/B. You'll see the price doesn't differ that much. and for VGN-FZ285U/B...yes, the price is really low! lol

you guys dont seem to read well.

The one with blu-ray is not $1299. It is around $2000.

Bestbuy for business already has it on their site.

Are you really that naive to think that they are going to design 2 laptops, one speced higher by about $700 than another and price it $100 lower?

hello! earth to mcfly. Sorry to crush your hopes and dreams but its not $1299.

To paraphrase Desi Arnez "that 'splains it"!

The price for the blue ray equipped FZ2 seemed UNBELIEVABLE given it's specs were almost identical to the FZ190 except for having half the L2 cache. I am not in such sticker shock any longer. I mean, I knew the price would fall, just not so much and so soon!

Oh we don't??? :D Then what's this: FZ2 with BlueRay for originally shown at $1299. (See attachment in case the link has disappeared by now.)

We now know, of course, it was a "miss print" on a site not ready for prime time.

    Gary

[Edit: 9/6/07 Someone FINALLY edited the original page and it now shows the correct price of $1999. The thumbnail below shows how it originally was posted as of 8/10/07 and what started all this confusion]

I feel the same way as many previous posts say. These new FZ2 models appear to be priced around the same price as my FZ160E/B but they have a larger HDD by 50GB, a dedicated graphics card, appears that they have T7500 processors instead of T7300, and for like $100 or something more it comes with blu-ray. I would feel ripped off if those prices are right. If they are I would consider returning my current one for one of the new ones.

Those prices are pretty cheap but from what I have heard I believe the prices are going up when they offically release the computer. No one at sony can even confirm that they are even releasing new models so I dont know, but the prices seem too cheap for them to stay that low. Expect them to go up in price...but maybe to be priced a little cheaper then their older models...it gets cheaper to install certain parts of a computer all the time.

not you gary, the other guys saying the blu-ray model will only be $100 more than the current fz190. I have replied many times in this thread referencing the price discrepancies and nobody bothers to look at any of it.
