Just a heads up, there's a new version of Notebook Hardware Control at
http://www.pbus-167.com/nhc/nhc.htm
Looks like it has quite a few improvements, and I'm testing it right now

That came out about 2 weeks ago, but yeah its definately an improvement.

Just downloaded it and tried to run it....but got this error message:
ERROR! Object reference not set to an instance of an object.
and then it closes.....
All I did was uninstall the previous version.....reboot, and install this latest version.....
Anyone else seeing this error?
NHC has worked flawlessly till now....

No, work besides each other perfeclty. The new NHC version is a little buggy though like "max performance" crashing the system.
-
I was about to post the work around for that object reference error.
All you have to do is just deleted the files in the acpi directory, and it should load just fine. I also uncheck the "Enable ACPI control system" after the NHC loads. -
-
Excellent!!! That did the trick.... THANKS!!!!!

It took a hour off my battery until I realised the nividia powermizer control is back to front, The ac part actually controls the battery settings and the battery settings control the AC settings.

Related to NeilK's question, my advanced Sony Power Management options are no longer visible in the "Power Options" item in the Conrol Panel. What happened to it? If I wanted NHC to control the power usage of my SZ, how would I disable devices during battery usage?
-
what, i'm at work and just installed the new nhc and you lost me, the powermizer controls are wrong? as in whats labled a/c is really battery and via versa? btw, being that the power mizer isnt displayed in my normal nvidia I was curious if it actually made a difference? example: now I dont need to switch btween video cards becuase nvidia set to lowest setting is as good as the intel vid card.

Also, I just tried setting up my S560 to disable the optical drive when using the battery, and it functions properly with both sony's power management and NHC running.
When I switch to battery, it automatically disable the DVD drive, and when I plugged it back, the drive is enabled.
Oh and Pre Release 03 is just released -

Okay powermizer is automatically set to (without NHC installed) on AC 400mhz/350mhz, and on battery 100mhz/110mhz. The powermizer controls in NHC allow you to change those defaults so that you can keep the graphics at full power when on battery or to underclock them to reduce heat when on AC, The middle control sets it to 200mhz/200mhz BTW. Anyway for whatever reason the AC settings control the battery settings and vice versa, Even if you tick the Disable powermizer controls I found it was still changing the clocks.

I don't recommend running the beta.
One I had it running my SZ would turn off automatically or wouldn't resume from standby.
Had those issues constantly while running it for 4 days.
Now that it's be uninstalled, the laptop is behaving properly again
That was with version 2 beta -
I did notice one thing. I tried powermizer and unless its my system, its not good. I set it to best powersaving while on battery, I was at 15fps in wow. In balanced it went to 20fps. In full power mode, it hit 30fps. Sounds good BUT before I turned on powermizer, I was hitting 64fps. something isnt right. Once I rebooted my computer and made sure the powermizer was off, it was fine again.
Update:
Weird. Now its working properly. Same thing using wow. Max saving=20fps,Balanced=35-40fps,full speed= 60-64fps. Hmm This worries me since I dunno what is causing this.
