I am new to this forum, but after perusing it, I have come to the awarness that many of you are indeed very knowledgeable with these laptops.

My wife was in 'need' of buying a new laptop and she went with an NR498E.

It arrived yesterday and after checking it out, it is quite nice on the eyes and it seems quite peppy enough for her workload, which by the way is perusing the internet and checking her work email.

I had her up the memory to 3GB and I believe it came with a Core 2 Duo 2.50 GHz processor.

Here is the problem I ran into. I have already wiped the Laptop's hard drive and installed a fresh copy of Windows Vista Business. I had a Partner Program membership for a year and received a license which I hadn't used yet to install on this new laptop.

Obviously, installing a clean OS on these Vaio's is imperative due to the amount of bloatware that is installed. AOL is interspersed everywhere and there was about 20 VAIO 'apps' installed in the Add/Remove Programs application.

I used many of the drivers at Sony's website, but I am still having an issue getting the Wireless Network Controller to work, as well as the Mass Storage Device. I have not even tried to see if the S1 or the other features work, long story short, it was a looong night of installing and re-installing.

So, could anyone be of assistance to a new Vaio user? :)

Sorry can't help you with your issues....maybe call Sony?

I've been looking at the NR and as an owner I had a few questions for you. How is the ECO screen as far as brightness and color? How are the speakers? What color need you get? Thanks in advance and I hope your wife enjoys her new Sony.
