So now we have the Vaio SE Series which is 15.5"... there is already the Vaio SA/SB/SC which are 13.3".
This was also already being discussed ( New 15" SE series coming soon) but good to have more info. -
I figured that Sony would do something "special" with the new machine. Pity it's just a 3D gimmick.
Hard to believe that they are still selling those old 5400 rpm drives. -
this was/is tempting, but I am still trying to hold out for ivy bridge to see how much of a leap that will be.
-
I was planning on going with Sandy Bridge, skipping IB with it's new transistor design but the same basic architecture and then upgrading to Haswell. Now I'm not so sure. I may wait for IB not because it's faster but just for some of the bugs to be worked out of the Z and then upgrade to Broadwell or Skylake.

4.4 lb for a 15.5" laptop? I'm sold...
-
Undercuts the MBP by a pound while offering performance that trumps the base MBP 15 (if not the higher-end MBP 15)...not bad at all. Pity Laptop Mag compared the speakers to AM radio. That would annoy me to no end.
-
Perhaps they'll at least offer SSDs as an option.
-
poor SE, i think Samsung just nailed this category.
For $1299

Samsung unveils Series 7 laptops, we go hands-on -- Engadget -
I dunno what happened to Sony, but I remember the main reason I really liked a coworker's Z1 was the thin bezel...
-
if you look at the current LCD TVs on the market, all the new Samsung ones have very thin bezel design. Sony ones are more old fashioned with bigger bezel, which is probably why they lost so much market share to Samsung. Sony just doesn't learn.
-
If I was a stockholder at Sony, the Series 7 would make me throw up a little in my mouth. It debuted at almost exactly the same time, it's aimed at exactly the same market as the SE, and frankly, it brings a lot more to the table unless you're absolutely positively dead-set on a 1080p screen instead of a 900p screen. I'll be interested to see detailed reviews of both, but in terms of visual impressions and spec sheet comparisons, the Series 7 is going to make life hell for the Vaio SE.
-
Finally a Samsung laptop (the 14 inch model) I would consider buying.

here it is the review of the new sony vaio, i think the images of engadget is wrong...because the S 15.5" hace numerical keypad!!
Sony VAIO S Series review (15-inch) -- Engadget -
Without SSDs and FHD the Samsung won't be a true competitor.
By now I assume everyone has seen this:
-
I would have been fully sold on the Series 7 if it came with a finger print reader, as I use that all the time on my Vaio TT. Not sure if the SE comes with that option or not, but I would think it might since the SA does?
-
It will include TPM so I'm guessing that a fingerprint reader will also be available.
-
Saw on cnet that it maybe optional as the picture showing off the slice battery had the finger print reader on it(sadly could not make the pic larger).
Saw that engadget got 4 hours out of with wifi on playing video at 65% brightness. Would it be fair to assume that 5.5 hours just browsing and music with brightness at 45% be possible? -

-
Is there any word of an ETA on this bad boy. If the screen is good, then i'm grabbing this over the SA
-
Anybody found any reviews of this so far besides Engadget and Laptop Mag and CNET? The first two reviews hated the speakers and mentioned some flex in the chassis, but otherwise liked the machine (particularly its screen and light weight). CNET's review was lengthy but told me very little. I'd be interested in some more reviews.
For those who haven't seen the Engadget or Laptop Mag reviews yet:
Sony VAIO S Series review (15-inch) -- Engadget

http://reviews.cnet.com/laptops/sony-vaio-se/4505-3121_7-35003065.html
By the way, it looks MUCH nicer in silver (Engadget review) than Black (Laptop Mag review). Just my opinion.
Random observation: comparing surface temperatures from the Laptop Mag review of the SE and the F2, the SE is 20 degrees cooler on the keyboard, about 10 degrees cooler on the bottom, and has about twice the battery life.
