Greetings all, new to this forum and I had a quick question.

I just got a new SR290 and I love it. I finally gave in and deccided to get win64 on it - I had been hesitating for fear of a lack of compatibility.

Well, after many reviews and countless people telling me I should be ok - by this time - the backwards compatibility and support for apps - you should have no issues.

First day at work with it, and I try to install the Cisco VPN client - and no go :-( They have said that they dont and wont have a 64 bit version of their client.

I spent the last 4 hours or so trying to find ways to work around the issue - but none that I am comfortable with.

    • NPE Client
    • Run a VM session
    • Cygwin port of Linux client

    My question is this.

If I create the system install cd's - can I install and choose to install 32bit? Or am I stuck with the 64 bit version, I didnt get Business, so I dont have the XP "downgrade" option? Do I have the Vista 32 downgrade option?

Secondly, I have 4 GB - I know I lose some, but can my system be unstable with 4 GB if the O.S. tries to write to a mem address outside the 3GB limit?

    Thanks all for your help!

I thought that 32-bit apps can still be installed on 64-bit Vista. Doesn't Vista make a separate "Program Files (x86)" installation folder for that?

    Yup, two dir's

But the client wont install - after I run it it says:

Error: 28011 - Windows 64-bit is not supported by Cisco Systems VPN Client 5.0.01.0600

And there are plenty of forum/blog posts with angry individuals discussing about the lack of support.

However, all of the other apps I have installed that were 32-bit went into the x86 dir and work just fine....

When one buys a 64 bit notebook - do they have the option of re-installing 32 bit?

    Thanks!
