    Hello,
I recently purchased a Sony Vaio SA290X with the 7200 RPM stock. There is a deal going at newegg for a OCZ Vertex 2 2.5" 60GB SATA II SSD for $83.99 after $15 mail in rebate and $60 discount (originally $158.99).
    The link is here:
    Newegg.com - 3-DAY DEALS! $329.99 Lenovo 3GB Laptop, $139.99 ASUS 23" LCD Monitor...

My question is, is this a good deal and is buying an SSD like this worth it? Should I try to get a 120 GB or get a SATA III one since I think the SA290 supports it (even though I don't really know what that means, faster transfer speeds I guess from logically thinking 2 to 3, it has to be better but I don't know by how much and whether it's worth it)? Or is this specific SSD not good enough, then please recommend me one worth my money.

Also, can someone give me the link to installing an SSD in a SA290, I remember I saw one awhile back, but can't find it again.

    Thank you,
    -Kenny

I don't have the link on hand, but in the Owners Forum section under SA/SB/SC Owners the first page has a link to installing the hard drive SSD.

From what I've seen OCZ has had some compatability issues with certain laptops, but likely would work fine. 60GB is small as a standalone drive. (Windows will take up 50% )

The best bet for you if you are trying to keep under a budget is to get a small SSD, either this one or another, and replace the CD/DVD drive with a caddy that will allow you to fit a traditional hard drive. ( Assuming you do not use it on a daily basis )

I'm working away from my main computer so I'll try to get links to the appropriate info ASAP. As far as SSD brands goes, Intel and Crucial are both known to be extremely reliable and I've used them for the last two years with no regrets. Crucial m4 SSD 64 GB will cost you ~ 95$ if you can find a decent deal, that was newegg's offering last week.

Feel free to ask more questions! I'll try to assist best I can. Just don't have access to links at the moment.

That you lazybee, that was exactly what I needed to know. I think I'll hold out and try to get a slightly bigger Crucial M4 SSD at a good deal.
    Appreciate it!
