Pretty expensive though. The SZ160 seems to be better than those models. BTW, SZ160 is still available at portableone.com. They have a few of them in stock.

The 270 has Cingular and a 120GB HD. Otherwise its the same thing as the 160 (no cingular and 100GB HD). Did I miss anything that the 270 gets over that would have been the 170? I wonder why they went to thw 200's.?.

Actually, it's not too bad of a price. Although you're not getting the T2600 like my SZ90, you're getting 2GB of RAM and a T2500. And if you don't need a 7200rpm drive, the 5400 120GB is good enough. Price wise, it's equavalent to what I paid all said and done (and that didn't include 2GB of RAM), so if you need the power and a US warranty, good deal.

The 170 was spec'd with a 100GB hard drive where the 270 has a 120GB hard drive. Can't see any other changes. The 180 was spec'd with 1GB of ram where the 281 has 2GB of ram as well as an included case.

    The msrp breakdown:
    SZ150 - $2199.00
    SZ160 - $2399.00
    SZ270 - $2499.00
    SZ281 - $3199.00

The only difference between the 150 and 160 are:
    80GB HDD vs 100GB HDD
    512MB RAM vs 1GB RAM

Not enough to warrant the $200 difference IMO.

Differences between 160 and 270 are:
    100GB HDD vs 120GB HDD
    Cingular card

Not sure how much the Cingular card is worth, but it seems like $100 more is worth it.

No comment on the price of the 281.

Does anyone know if the SZ281P/X has an EXTERNAL Integrated Wireless Wide Area Network antenna (similar to model TX750P)? Or is the antenna on this vaio notebook internal (i.e. hidden inside the casing). Pictures on the sony website doesn't show an "external" antenna.

As I mentioned in another thread, since the CPU is not soldered, if you buy a new CPU, hard drive and RAM off NewEgg, you can build your own SZ2 for a much better price.

IMO, SZ notebooks are not worth the premium, mostly because the build quality and Sony support are horrible. If I had 2k I would get a MacBook. Their build quality is unmatched and support is the best.

I actually got sz270P a couple days ago, the 270 had the cingular edge but the service is around 50-80/month and you only get the one month free if you sign up for a one or two yr contract with them.

Other than that, i think the laptop is great. Super fast and I am getting pretty good battery strength compared to what people are saying. I was on battery on speed mode and while installing a clean windows (using this site) and other software and I got a little over 3 hours.

I got a pretty cood deal from www.cashbackster.com, they got a 15 dollar coupon for buy.com and they give 2.5% cash back.

Is there a way to disassemble or remove the External Integrated Wireless Wide Area Network antenna from the SZ 270 or TX models? It clings to things way too often.
