It seems that for no apparent reason (re: no injury to the laptop or anything) my motherboard was blown and so now I have an SZ220 that wont power on.

I was wondering if anyone knew of a cheap place to buy a new motherboard/CPU or if it's not worth it and just scrap the laptop after recovering the stuff that still works.

    Thanks.

It's pretty much never worth it to replace a motherboard.

Yea I figure as much. I was just hoping that since it's an older model maybe the prices would be relatively decent.

I probably could. But how would I get the CPU onto the motherboard...notebook ones normally need to be soldered on, right?

Dont think so, just some thermal adhesive maybe? I really do not know too much about that. Maybe someone with an SZ knows.

Yea I'd need to find out...the CPU should be fine so I would hope I could transfer if possible instead of buying a new one.

SZ cpu is not soldered, as bejand said you just only need thermal adhesive and off course the knowledge to install it.

    good luck!

Thanks for the info...good to hear that they aren't soldered on...seems that if I can find a motherboard off ebay, for $100 or so it would be worth it even to keep as a spare.
