I have just bought a Sony SZ38, not sure what the model name is in other countries (SZ330 in USA ?), but it has a 2GHz Core 2 Duo (T7200), 120Gb HD, 1Gb single chip memory.

The memory is 667 MHz, and I have upgraded it with a similar Kingston chip to give me 2GHz of 667MHz RAM.

    Questions :

    1) The memory seems to run at only 533MHz (Sisoft Sandra). According to reports, the motherboard can handle 667MHz, but how do you make it run faster? Both memory chips have identical specs and can run at 667MHz.

    2) The BIOS allows very limited settings. Is there a way to get into a more detailed setup mode ?

    3) How do you overclock this notebook (CPU, memory, graphics) ? I don't intend doing this as a regular exercise but would like to know.

    Try CPU-Z,
    Upgrading the BIOS might help.

It has been mentioned somewhere in this forum that the BIOS on the SZ are set to allow memory to run at a max of 533MHz.....

The SZ runs its memory at 533Mhz, yet you can put 666Mhz RAM.
having dual-channel memory at 533Mhz will be just as fast as a single chip running at 666Mhz as you'll max out the Core Duo bus in both cases

Thanks, but are you saying that there would be no improvement in effective memory bandwidth by running dual-channel at 667 MHz ? As compared to running dual-channel at 533MHz ?

The motherboard seems to support it, it would only require a change in the BIOS settings (probably via a BIOS upgrade).

BTW, I have figured out that my SZ38PC is equivalent to the USA SZ360P. The specs are identical. Except that I get Adobe Elements 4.0 and Adobe Premiere Elelements 2.0 with mine.
