no word yet for US or canada, but sonyinsider says there are papers at the US FCC site for a U series. The AW seems to be the bigger brother of the FW with an 18.4 wide screen at 1920x1080. It is nice and the top end model comes with the 9600M GT with 512 of ddr3 ram, the other card is the 9300M GS with 256 ddr3 ram.

I don't think the top end 9600M GT will be offered in north america, although who knows. if it is to be sold here, won't be cheap.

I think this is the actual weight, so this series has no interest. There are 15,4-inchers at around that weight.

What's you source? only the japanese site?

I find it hard to believe the new series would be 250 grams heavier than the old series.

The old series was 2.5 kg, so that's only 100 g more... I saw the same weight at Sony Spain. It's the same source (Sony), so both could be wrong. Could anybody put one of those on a scale? :)

According to several reviews I've seen it weighs between 2.35kg and 2.40kg.

Here's one: Gewicht inklusive Akku (Gramm) 2350
    http://www.notebookjournal.de/tests/datasheet/429

This is because they actually put it on a scale.

Ok, after the AR has been refreshed to AW and the CR to CS...who's next?

But of course the TZ! :) Can't wait to see it...

Especially when Toshiba announced the Dynabook SS RX2: 12.5-hour battery and still world's lightest 12.1-incher (Montevina ultraportable).

I think the difference is whether they have the power brick into account or not. According to Sony, CR series is 2.5 kg. Maybe CS without the power brick are around 2.4-2.5 kg.

Also, no word on the option for a Hi-color screen?

WOW, that is one great looking machine with an excellent price point, but does this mean the end of the beloved NR or simply a price cut for it? Either way, i hope sony vaios gain some market share, they are great machines!

The only concern about these sweet looking puppies is the glossy surface all over it will be a finger print magnet! but...either way...it will for sure attract some attention for its good looks! That mouse pad is pretty badass too!

CS replaces CR. I do not think it will affect NR series.

I guess NR series will be replaced by a Montevina model later.

This is funny but, did anyone else notice how incredibly tiny the space bar is in the pics on the first page? (Particularly the red & pink ones where you can see the keyboard). I hope that its just a prototype thing...or do non-english keyboards normally have tiny spacebars due to the different key layouts? The spacebar on the CR is 5 full letter keys wide....this one appears to be a little over 2 letter keys wide?

That is because its a Japanese keyboard, these models were first announced in Japan and where the press releases came from. They use small spacebars and large enter buttons as some big differences.

Don't worry, when these models come to the other regions, they will have their respective keyboard layouts.

    VGP-MSP4 will be available soon.

however, the mouse pad and wireless mouse bundle (VGP-JMAKC2) will be available on 16th Sept in Japan, SRP7,980 yen (US$75)

They're cheaper than the current CR series. Nice.

    Intel® Core™2 Duo P8400 (2,26 GHz y bus frontal de 1066 MHz)
    Intel® PRO/Wireless 802.11a/b/g/n
320 GB Serial ATA 5400 rpm
    SDRAM DDR2-800 de 4 GB
    X-Black WXGA de 14,1 pulgadas (resolución de 1280 x 800)
    NVIDIA® GeForce® 9300M GS 128 MB
    DVD±RW/±R DL/RAM

999,- euro (will cost aprox 999$ in US)

If it would weigh 2 kg and had HDMI I would have gotten a black one.

    Centrino 2 a.k.a. Montevina platform.
Faster CPU with lower TDP. Runs cooler and better battery life.

    CR series will be discontinued.

*** is wrong with sony.. these new machines dont even have DVI .. let alone hdmi.. just VGA.. c'mon sony wake the #^% up! i want to be able to plug these laptops into a 22/24" monitor when im home, and VGA doesnt cut it!!! now im back to looking at the compaq and HP machines with do HDMI on the 14'1 and they are lighter..

    http://vaio.sony.es/view/ShowProduc..._cons&pageType=Overview&category=VN+CS+Series

ive been waiting for a decent sony for so long, first the dissapointment with the SR not having dvi or hdmi, and now the CS series which was the screen size i actually wanted..if only they cut out the stupid gimick like flashing led lights and gave us the features we want!

    http://www.vaio.sony.co.jp/Biz/Products/CS1/spec_vom1.html

    dimension is 13.2 x 1.1-1.6 x 9.6 inches.
    weight is 5.7 pounds.
NVIDIA GeForce 9300M GS, 128MB VRAM.
    Blu-ray drive.
    NO HDMI or DVI output.

Note that the VRAM is only 128MB. So, it may not be enough for Blu-ray since Blu-ray needs at least 256MB vram for guaranteed smooth playback.
