It's time I've to buy a laptop. After surfing the wide ranges of products, I ruled out Apple (no Mac, no Apple) , HP, Acer, Compaq... except Dell and Sony.
The thing is Dell simplicity attracts me while Sony's passion adores me. Exploring both categories and seeing my budget, I have got two options (in almost equal price-cet):

    • New Dell Inspiron 15
    • New Sony VPCEB14EN/BI [E Series]

    Both have almost same configuration:
I'm Indian, and here in Delhi, it's very easy to choose Dell, customize and get it. But I have no such experience in Sony's product.
From any personal experience, can anyone tell what should I opt for?
And is there any major setback in Sony Vaio product?

    Please REPLY,
    Ankur

None. I'd never spend my own money on a Dell.

I personally think the Sony keyboard alone is enough to break this tie. :)

I have Sony at home and Dell at work - Sony wins for the following reasons:
    1. Screen - better colors, angles and overall appearance.
    2. Keyboard (already mentioned) - simply just better - typing is so much easier on my Sony versus work.
    3. Looks (very much a personal choice here) - The Sony just looks nicer.
    4. Sony's don't double as a hand-warmer.....

    Hi,
I am having confusion over same - Sony VPCEB14EN/BI or New Dell Inspiron 15 ?
I am from Pune (India). For Sony Vaio, I am not sure about service.
OS provided with Sony-VPCEB14EN is Windows 7 Basic. What are limitations of Windows 7 Home Basic related to Home Premium.
Also while reading online, its mentioned somewhere that drivers of Vaio for Windows 7 are not available and there is no driver/motherboard disc provided with Laptop. Also no RecoveryDisc is provided.
It would be more clear if anybody using Vaio laptop and Windows 7 comment on this.

Sony Vaio(s) have a hidden recovery partition inside the harddrive which contains Windows, drivers, and other softwares that came with the laptop. You also have the option to make your own recovery discs using the vaio software in the laptop (which after you had burned your own recovery dvds, you can also erase the hidden partition to have more harddrive space).
I believe many people have found vaio drivers in the sony's support site (for clean install), but I haven't check that out myself so I am unable to verify.
