Hi - I purchased a Sony Vaio FW21E ten days ago and have had nothing but trouble since bringing it home. Firstly - wireless connectivity: It would not connect to my university server so I took it to a friends house - would not connect to her router. Tried a different router - still no connection. I can connect to the internet via ethernet - but this is supposed to be a wireless device.

When trying to access some websites and my university e-mail I get the error: Microsoft visual c++ runtime library C :programfiles/internetexplorer\iexplore.exe
    and ie crashes.

Last but not least - and this one takes the biscuit. I bought a sony rechargeable mouse to ensure that it was compatible (model number VGP BMS77). Not the cheapest option but I thought it would be best. The Mouse will not pair with the laptop!!!!!! I get the error message 80070057.

As said before - this is a brand new laptop and I haven't got a clue how to fix any of these problems.

Any help would be very gratefully received

    Ann

There are targeted fixes but without someone right by your computer, it would take too long. I'd recommend a more system wide solution. But make sure you understand each step before you start.

So first thing first, use your Recovery Disks to revert your system back to its original state it was in when it came out of the factory. If you don't have recovery disks, you should be able to create it from the "Vaio Recovery Center" in the Programs Folder under Start.

Then with your factory installed software on your laptop, make sure your windows is fully updated with all the patches from MS (run Windows Update).

Then, apply all the patches and updates for your laptop from Sony's website (if you are in the U.S., then go to the website esupport.sony.com, and enter your model number. On the new page, click on "Drivers and Software" on the left hand side). Look for the patches/updates that does not have a prefix that says "Original" on them and install those. Original is what is on your factory installed software package.

See what happens, and report back. You shouldn't be having these basic problems unless your operating system/software packages have been corrupted/modified.

Thanks very much. I just can't believe that a new laptop can present so many problems. I will try this out and report back. If this doesn't fix it this machine is going back to where it came from. Yes I am from the UK :)
