Hi,
I recently purchased a Sony Vaio E series 15.6 inch laptop with win8, Core i7 and 8 GB RAM, 1 TB HD. When launching applications, and even during general use, the laptop feels very slow and sluggish. Sometimes, applications freeze for a while. Overall, I am pretty disappointed, as my expectations of i7/8GB were very high.
in fact, In the store, I have seen some Win 7 laptops with core i7 / 8GB RAM, and they seemed incredibly fast.
Has anyone else seen this problem?
Any pointers to diagnose/fix the issue?
regards,
prasanna.

There should be no expectations of speed with a 1TB 5400RPM HDD. Get an SSD and that will change everything.

Or at least you should create recovery DVDs, then do a fresh install windows 8.
This will make your laptop much faster comparing to factory installed with bloatware.
However, as mentioned above, get a SSD and you will fly higher. -
Yup, put an SSD in it and you will notice the difference immediately. I put a Samsung 840 250GB SSD in a E series laptop with Core i3 3310 and it is very fast. 10 seconds to get in Windows 8. It is very easy with the E series, there is a separate compartment for the hdd, just two screws for the cap and then one screw and you can slide the hdd out.

It should not be that sluggish even with a 5400rmp drive. I would do a fresh install see if that fixes it otherwise contact Sony. While what other people are saying about SSDs is valid your computer should not be that sluggish, maybe post a video.

As others have said, you could do a fresh install of Windows so that you don't have any bloatware. Alternatively, disabling some startup programs could help (although with 8 GB of RAM, this shouldn't really be an issue). To do this, type "msconfig" in the start menu search bar, then go to the "Startup" tab and see if you can disable unnecessary programs from launching on Windows startup. If you want, you can also use the control panel to uninstall unnecessary programs.
If you are still unsatisfied with its speed, you can get an SSD to make your computer feel extremely fast. Some good, reliable choices include the Samsung 840, Crucial M4, or Plextor M3/M5 SSDs.
