saw them yesterday, was wondering...
Would really be nice if the flagship model (791) had a better processor than you can add in to the 740 cto..
the 791 should come with the 9500... instead they slapped the 9300 in there.. so you can get a faster processor in a crappier model... comon sony wtf. -
anything except for the chipset and processor change in this update?
BTW the tz 298 is up as well -
i believe its just processor and the the omission of 1gb options for ram.. looks like about it
edit- i was only talking about the configure models, i dont know what may be different in the preconfigs but no new options at least -
let's hope they have a 780 cto... does the x4x series use an LED lit screen now? Or is that reserved for the x5x and up
-
don't they make x4x in all black?
-
Some significant upgrades for the new 2008 SZ line...processors featuring up to 6MB L2 cache, up to 2.6GHz Core 2 Duo level, although there is a huge price difference between the T9300 and T9500...
Notably though is that Sony finally offers 3GB RAM as an option, and the premium models come with 4GB RAM. However, I didnt catch the HDD options in some of the new laptops...
Also with the new models, is a SZ645 model which looks like specs of a SZ6 Premium model but with Windows XP Professional SP2.
From the new SZ models though I see a new standard...2GB+ RAM, powerful Intel processors, Next-Gen Wifi + Bluetooth, and flashy notebook computers. -
flashy notebook computer?? they've looked the same for like 3 years now so ... their looks are not a new standard.
-
Well what I meant was the SZ models show off style, at least to me, and thats in the all-black models they offer. Surely the design will change in coming versions. I dont know what the SZ5, SZ4, and prior series looked like. I suppose they look similar/same to the SZ6 and SZ7. Regardless the SZ series has a lot of power inside the 13.3 inch size.
-
The 600 series was the first to have the all black interior/exterior. In the previous premium models the inside was more of a grey. The 200 series was when the premium carbon fiber was introduced(Correct me if I'm wrong but there was not on available in the 100 SZ's.) The look of the webcam also changed in the 600 series. Now it seems Sony will be offering various lid designs http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=206014.
-
well my sz3 series looks IDENTICAL to the sz6 and 7 series
-
Except for the few color and cosmetic differences. Peep this, look at the comparison pics.

too bad the keyboard didn't get an overhaul. i saw and tested a demo sz at bestbuy, lol horrible
-
nothing chaged in looks and aspect!!!
-
Not really. SZ3 is 0.3 pounds lighter and 0.2" thinner than SZ6 or SZ7.
-
REALLY? You sure?
-
That's right, I guess the thickness increased in the 600 series.
-
I'm so disappointed. I am in the market of looking for a new laptop (replacing my FS630 due to slow centrio processor). I though abt getting a used SZ 6 but got information saying that new SZ coming out expecting new keyboard because the old current one is way too loudsy. I though they probably throw on the SZ something like CR or TZ's keyboard design... but no.... same thing just the freaken processor. They could at least make the SZ a bit wider looking. It's look like it has a 4:3 screen with the size of it right now.
-
I expect this to be the last iteration of the SZ series before it is completely overhauled. The original S series only made it to the S5 before it was replaced by the SZ. And then later an S6 model was introduced to have the "vista capable" label put on....but it had already been replaced by the SZ.

Some of these are pretty cool, especially the bumpmap effect is a nice touch..
But I'm expecting the SZ-next within half a year. I'm suprised it wasn't announced at CES. -
will only depreciate about 300 bux over a year if you get a good deal... fair IMO.

Penryn is not a large enough update. Since Nehalem for notebooks is officially coming out in Q2 2009, Montevina will be the debut of a new 13.3 inch series. -

Do you have a source or are you just pulling pig in the sky stuff?
