Don't forget it has sandy bridge integrated graphics, which is more than enough for most tasks. It can even play modern games on like a mediumish detail setting

Given that the S1, S2 tablets are expected to be on sale at the end of summer ( Engadget, and the tablets have been demoed but not the ultra-mobile PC, is it still likely that something will show up by July? If so, should we not have heard about it already?

But we have. I assume that the picture of the Ultimate Mobile was released by Sony or their contractor as part of a marketing campaign.

"new" SB processors, but no Quad.
dimensions haven't been reveilled yet, just that it's smaller/thinner than the old Z.
2.5lbs for the main unit, 1.5lbs for the external unit IIRC.

I was careful to say that the information was released by Sony or a contractor -- not that it was a Sony Press Release or other formal communication. My take is that the informal information dissemination is part of their marketing campaign.

I wonder if the new Z is going to be released with Windows 8. There are rumors of a July 2011 Windows 8 release date.

I realize that most of the expectations are for a 2012 release and MS would never release an OS before it's perfected but it may be possible that things sync up.

That's a pretty good deal... considering a new base model Z was ~1600 and the FHD screen was a $100 upgrade... i guess it depends on other specs too...

right it is not bad, only problem is the system has been opened and it is a REFURB.

if it is with 1 year warranty I would just buy right away

besides, the CPU is just i5-540m, and I need to drive 40 miles to pick it up with cash - sold AS-IS, about 80 days warranty with SONY

that's the date that Sony asked the FCC to wait until before they release pictures from the tests. This date can come later than when Sony decides to release the laptop.

I received this mail from Customer service of Sony Canada:

We’re hoping to receive a new Z Series laptop in June, but we cannot make any guarantees on availability dates or features until we’ve received an anticipated arrival date. Once we’ve received this information we will surely post these new models online at www.sonystyle.ca for pre-order.

I guess what you have found on the FCC website is not the Z!

lol sony canada knows jack and will tell you jack, and yes the laptop I found on the FCC site IS the new Z.

I NEVER said it would be released in november, please read what i wrote, I said the photos, manuals and tear apart from the FCC would be made available on November 13th, nowhere did I I mention any release date, so why are people assuming it's a release date o_O
