I have to say, I liked the design of the previous Z more than this one. It's not bad, but........I don't know. I mean, what's with the bezel? Oh well, I'm still really looking forward to this. Now all that's needed is the price.
-
goldentreesang Notebook Evangelist
How come no one else is reporting on this? has anyone ever heard of akihabara news?

sony vaio z press release europe 28th june -
i'm settled brothers
edit.... look like touchpad has no physical button : ( -
goldentreesang Notebook Evangelist
I think its like the macbooks where the button is embedded in the trackpad. -
The website says it can connect up to 4 monitor, so its via 1hdmi on the notebook and 1hdmi+vga on the dock.No mention whether it support 30inch monitor at 2560x1600. Does anyone know if its possible to daisy chain with the
power media dock ,if its possible does that means that you can connect more than 4 monitor? -
Does that mean this thing is going to make the MBP look cheap? I mean without the dock it's not exactly a powerhouse is it..
-
goldentreesang Notebook Evangelist
It looks like 1080p is max resolution over both hdmi and vga. not sure about daisy chain, but doubtful. -
in noteboocheck.net
6650M specs
it says that the diference between 6750M and 6650M is only the memory used
6750M : GDRR5
6650M: DDR3
come on sony, put GDDR5 and some 6770M hahaha! -
it is. And the keyboard backlight it like a cool green. Very nice.
-

GREEN!?!?!? -
Karamazovmm Overthinking? Always!
This killed it for me, why it must always be proprietary? This is one of the reasons that I sold my w880i several years ago, and got an android phone.
I didnt care for the dock, I cared for the thunderbolt, and that killed it
but it is as I said, the thunderbolt is only a pcie interface lets see if there is another release based on the usb port used (remembers that when intel showed thunderbolt they used the usb port) -
is it true that the dock is optional?
-
goldentreesang Notebook Evangelist
Very Bottom. "2 Power Media Dock available with selected models or as an optional accessory"
-
goldentreesang Notebook Evangelist
so when does preorder and cto preorder start?
-
goldentreesang Notebook Evangelist
Its quite a unique solution actually. Allows you to use the dock and other usb3 devices. heres more of a following on usb3 than thunderbolt anyway. and who knows, people might starting developing for sony's version of light peak now. -
Will the off board graphics be decently portable like one of the sheet batteries? Also how is the battery life?
I sure hope that I can buy an i7 one for 2 grand (500 more then the maxed SA) but that seems like wishful thinking. I will have to put alot of thought into this because I would love to get this pc but I just cant break the 2 grand marker for a laptop. Especially when my desktop was only 1.2 grand and can play any thing maxed out and renders like a beast.
Is the 1080p screen gonna be a free upgrade again or will it be an extra cost this time? -
Karamazovmm Overthinking? Always!
I dont care and never cared for usb3, I just use usb for simplicity.
I have a NAS, so its all via the ethernet cable, or the esata, or via wifi
the speed of usb3 is still slow and single channel, I dont use anything that really requires more power via usb (I only use some thumbdrives and a mouse)
There is hardly some point or merit to usb3, thunderbolt is clearly superior
and lets hope that the usb connector gets more traction -
goldentreesang Notebook Evangelist
THe 1080p will likely cost extra (previous Z was $100 upgrade) and the press release makes it sound like it will only be available via CTO.
The power media dock isn't meant to be carried around, and according to beaups cant even run on battery power. dimensions are 148 x 16.65 x 220mm and weight is 0.685kg. If u absolutely NEED discrete onboard they get the SA.
And don't worry about the cost, its worth every single penny. no one buys a z and regrets it
This computer will also keep you happy for a long time so you won't have to upgrade as frequently.
-
there's clearly an optical connection inside the USB 3 connector (I hinted this earlier). Issue is there's no similar outputs on the "dock ".
-
besides name and being lighter and thinner what are the key differences between the Z and the S series? No optical drive? no discrete graphics onboard, can have the choice of 1080p? may be longer battery?
Also what is the difference between the SA,SB, and SC? I dont understand that naming. -
Anyone wants to throw out some prices for the base model (with and without the optional dock) based on the specifications from the press release? I would like to get at least an idea of how much it will cost. Obviously, it will be more than $2,000.
-
Obviously? I just looked up the last base model and it started at $1960.
-
What is the starting price without the dock? $2000?
No Z for me. MacBook Air in July it is. -
preorder starts tonight?
-
The thing is though TSE, quad core vs due core =/ big dif in the amount of crunch ability. Bah I am so torn between this and the S. If I dont get one of those two I am getting the 14" envy and saying heck with it.
-
It's up:
For £2,699.00
Z Series : VAIO & computing : Overview : Sony -
Karamazovmm Overthinking? Always!
yeah I remember that, I was the one arguing that the connector is meaningless, thunderbolt is about the I/O controller slapped in a pcie slot
well Im glad that sony could do, optical instead of eletric, however that means that my dreams of snatching one without the dock are long gone, since I wont easily replace the dock with the sonnet egpu solution.
I will just hope that my hinge holds together another year -
TofuTurkey Married a Champagne Mango
1) What are the two black rectangles at the bottom left and right? Are they batteries? They kind of look like they're replaceable?
2) Looks like the SSDs are just above the right black box? They look narrow? Narrower than 1.8"?
3) I don't seem to see any RAM chips, have they become proprietary / soldered onto the motherboard? -
The Z has a quad core processor?
Even then, AMD Radeon 6650m for graphics in an external unit? I thought the whole point of an external unit is for more powerful cards? -
It seems they where going proprietary on alot of stuff for this notebook to make it thinner. Well I love every thing about it and would gladly pick one up, but for 4 grand I will grab and S or an HP Envy sigh so much for waiting =[
-
4,300USD?? Is my conversion right??
-
Jayayess1190 Waiting on Intel Cannonlake
Why did Sony stop offering the 1366x768 option on Z's?
-
$2000 without dock would be absurd. I think the base price of the previous Z was like $1800 and that was with an internal dedicated graphics card. I can't imagine them charging $2000 without the dock for this Z.
Umm.....why does it say "Graphics by Nvidia" next to the picture of the docking station? Perhaps multiple configurations for the dock? -
usually everything in UK is rip-off (also in EU) the price of electronic usually convert with 1:1 some time even less so it should be $2600
-
TofuTurkey Married a Champagne Mango
At the top right, it says, "Also discover our business Z series". The 'normal' Z seems to be 'VN-Z', the business series is 'VNP-Z'. -
anyone know will it has gobi2000 or gobi3000?
-
Even if that is true, this is still a rip off for a piece of equipment. Yes, it is beautiful and I will make no quams about that. But for what is in it? Lets see i7 quad core 250, 256 Gb ssd3 600, 8Gb of RAM? 200, batteries around 100 each, display 200, graphics card 250, blueray 120. These are all extremely exaggerated prices as well because I know these parts cost a fraction for Sony.
Total that up and you get 1820 or so. So that means you are paying 780 for build quality? Sounds like your buying an Apple except more expensive.
Let me repeat I love this computer and would gladly take one, but why Sony. Guess I am an idiot for hoping for 2k when I knew the old ones where 4 grand topped out. But I guess dreamers will always dream aigh? -
Put it up already Sony! I have 3k ready to give you!
-
dude, screen definitely not $200, it is very pixel dense LCD, also i7-2620M is $350
+ the cost of housing aluminum, touchpad, keyboard, wiring, WAN card, LAN, USB3 chip, charger and everything motherboard.... all addups bro
+ advertisement, engineering, support, warranty etc..
and sony is in business for profit like every business in the world they are not non-profit so they have to make some $$ -
Will I be able to get a 256 SSD and External GPU for 3k?
-
i believed so bro. but you might not be able to have a bluray and all that jazz
-
What a joke. This isn't rip-off Britain, it's rip-off everyone. I can't believe people are going to pay that amount for what appears to be a modular desktop pc!!
-
TofuTurkey Married a Champagne Mango
Hmmmm..... not..... really..... I think not all components can be found anywhere else... I want to find out more about each piece.
-
i'm ready to order. i changed my mind. lol. im convinced.
okthanks -
