But, even if it has ugly speakers, in my case, no problem. I've never seen a movie on a laptop without some decent speaker in addition, and most of the times, there was a tv. And I think that i used 99% of time my headphones with my laptops eheh

 

So is it right to say that the speakers of the new z series are very bad if compared to the old z modell?

 

jeez, i'm hoping they throw in some free promotional discounts really quick on top of an edu discount and such.

When I spec'd my Z12, they offered free $100 upgrade to 1920x1080 LCD. Also this time around RAM is soldered on so have to spec it out to start.

The model I spec'd out came to $3919. My strategy is to get discounts up the wazoo and then have it shipped to my buddies place in New Hampshire to skirt sales tax.

I may sell my Z1 and buy a Z2
But I'm wondering about the SSDs..
Does anyone knows how upgradable the Z2 SSD are ?
Can I replace the 128 Gb SSD of the Z2 with my quad-SSD 256 Gb from my current Z1 ?

I've heard that memory stick are soldered to the laptop, is that really true ?
It looks hard to believe though...

 

Why is it cheaper to buy the sheet battery in the accessories page upon checkout? $149 Vs $200. That's just dumb.

 

No way. SSD by Sony (well.. special ones from samsung) use a special double connector which connect to 2 separate uncovered ssd with special plug. So no way to connect a normal ssd.

Yep, Same here. I never have to wait for their discount codes. Just call and try again. I have better luck in the evenings before the center closes.

Also, There are cash back programs through Bank Of America offering 5% with the use of their cards. Doesn't even have to be credit, can be your debit card.

in addition.. (at least for 256GB 3rd.. we don't know exact value for 128GB 3rd) the 3rd generation are much better then the previous generation..

Guys, about SSD in raid 0... am i right saying that it's possible to use trim by driver released by intel the last year?

Last time around I got a 10% edu discount over the phone. This time going through the online store, I only get 5%.

DiscoverCard offers 5% cashback on purchases made through sonystyle.com when you link it through discover.com

The discounts are independent of each other so it's stacked, but it wont work if I have to call the order in. I don't mind calling the order in, but would liek to save that extra 5%.

 

One more thing to get straight

Can I just submit to using the larger power supply daily for double duty, or is this impossible as well?

If not, would one of the universal adapter out there like the cooler master work?

is it normal for sony laptops from Conics to cost about $1000 more than from sony?

 

The sheet battery is nice, but the best part of the old Z12 series was that it had a built in optical drive at 3.04lbs. The PMB base really kills it for me since that means i'll have to connect it to a clunky dock and the external GPU thingy is lame IMO.

Watch, they'll soon be adding in some promotional discounts like a free upgrade to full HD screen or cheaper upgrades on RAM or something.

 

The problem is that even if the connectors fit, there is no guarantee that the signals carried on Z1 are the same as that on the Z2. You could end up shorting the drives or the motherboard. Or you could get lucky.

It's a fixed percentage more I believe.

 

So is there any way to upgrade the SSD? I know it's a special RAID0 setup, but I know people managed to upgrade the SSD in the old Z. Anyone know if that'll be possible this time around?

So yes, to a certain extent it is normal for Conics to be more expensive than Sonystyle US (although you do get a lot more configuration options, and oftentimes options only available in Japan).

You're right, in fact after that statement I said myself: stop it, there's still garbage collection and wear levelling.. how do these work??
And i seeked that thread... very good results.

After installing 9.6 intel drivers and letting at least 20GB of free space, activating cache writing.. speed remain very good..
