It seems to be a bit cheaper than the W series and comes with a lower res.
The line up is getting a little odd.

Interesting...did not see it coming! I wonder how it looks like and if there are more colors available...
-
Well from the links we can assume there is black and white
I would be more curious about the weight. The price is really cheap for Sony. Still I feel it's quite useless to have nb with 1024x600. Just the MS Office toolbar has to take half of the screen...
Anyway thanks for fresh info Rachel

Tesco's has some pictures here.

The blurb also states that it weighs 1.3kg.
-
If you don't tell me, I would have thought it's just a black W...
Other than that, the only noticeable differences are the keyboard and the layout of ports. -
The trackpad is different as well. I had to bring up pictures of the W series to tell though so as you say it is not noticeable.

I know some people would rather see a new TT series or a P series rather than a 10.1 netbook. I was never a fan of the two toned colour trackpad so i think this looks better in that respects.
May be Sony will allow people to customise this with a higher res display. -
Nice find. Maybe Sony won't even announce this because it's just a blatant rebadge of some ODM model with zero imagination like you might hope and expect from Sony. I don't know how you spin the marketing on this one when it looks like and has the features of every other cheap netbook.
-
Maybe its screen will cover 150% Adobe RGB
-
Really? I thought this looks like W more than any other netbook, so you can see the family heritage/image there. I agree I can't see any other feature that distinguish this from other netbook, but it definitely looks different. I am sure Sony can find a way to spin this -- they don't have reality distortion field like Apple, but they do know how to sell their stuff to their intend market, however large or small or niche would that be.
BTW, did anyone notice that M is just an upside-down W...
-
Come on Sony, what's wrong? Another netbook? Exactly like the W, with lower resolution? Please, don't became like Asus, every week a new eee!
Where are the refreshes of the X and the P? -
They refresh what brings money. And since W is a bit over competition they need another one to fit the low bottom of the market.
-
hang on this isn't the M series that was mentioned by Sony Insider is it?
-
Sony needs to make money at the moment I guess. This is a real silly move IMO.
-
I think that this is what you mean.

I think it was said that this is going to be a AW replacement. This is still to come. May be there is more to come in the product line up.
Edited to add
I've just been to check and they did run a story today on this netbook and they are still expecting the model above.
-
I think Sony Insider concluded that this is the M series they heard about. If you look at the original model numbers they provided, M111AX/B & M111AX/W, those look awfully similar to the W211AX/(color) model number of W and show color choice of black and white as we are seeing here.

Yes you're right Skyshade, haha i never read that article in full i linked to before. I was going of the comments in the thread that was posted here. I see now that picture in that article is just a photo of an old series M model desktop.
