Just taking a new look at conics and they have a whole slew of new options available for the TZ laptop:

    48GB Flash (+160GB 2.5" 5400RPM)
    160GB (2.5" 5400RPM NO DVD)
    48GB Flash (+DVD Burner)
    80GB (1.8" 4200RPM + DVD burner)
    100GB (1.8" 4200RPM + DVD burner)
    200GB (2.5" 5400RPM NO DVD)
    48GB Flash (ONLY)
    160GB (2.5" 5400RPM NO DVD)
    48GB Flash (+200GB 2.5" 5400RPM)
    64GB Flash (ONLY)
    64GB Flash (+DVD Burner)
    64GB Flash (+160GB 2.5" 5400RPM)
    64GB Flash (+200GB 2.5" 5400RPM)

    Now that's much better!

Personally I think I like the 200Gb option without DVD drive. At a later stage I can put in a next gen SSD that has better write performance than the current iterations...
To get the 64Gb + HDD costs though! (an additional $1000/£500/733euro)

But still...so many options to consider :)

I am interested in the 200gb only option myself. I just wish I could later on upgrade it to a 1.8" SSD and DVD drive but looks like I could only add a 1.8" drive in the future. :(

Sony really should make the 2.5 inch HD available in the US.

I love my 160gig hd. I don't miss the dvd at all.

For somebody that wants a faster hd, but doesn't want to spend the extra money for the ssd, the 2.5 hd is a great alternative.

    Hmm

I wonder if the speed for the new 48 SSD and 64 SSD same as the 32 SSD version.

I'm still deciding if I should get the 48 or 64....

    sigh!

You mean the 30 - 35 MB/s average read speed (32 GB SSD)? Indeed not very fast. So I hope not...

If you have dozens of wheelbarrows full of money at home you could get the 64GB SSD... otherwise I would choose the 48 GB version. The surcharge for the 64GB SSD is far to high... at least at the moment. There are much cheaper ways to get additional 16 GB (if really needed).

The speed of the 48GB or 64GB SSD is going to be faster or slower than the 32GB?

Since they are still the 1.8" variant, I believe they might be the same type, just bigger in capacity. I hope I'm wrong though.

They may be slightly better...but it definitely wont be a marked improvement I think. We will have to wait another generation or two before SSD can beat ALL stats of a normal HDD...

I have seen different HD tune benchmarks showing a maximum of 35 MB/s AVERAGE (!) read speed for the Samsung MCBOE32GQAPQ.

I think you mistake burst or maximum speed with average read speed... otherwise please show us a screenshot of your HD Tune benchmark score.

And even 46 MB/s burst or maximum speed is not fast for a SSD... sorry!

I know how to read. And in average speed, the lowest time, it read 43 mb/s
Its the fastest speed for a 1.8 inch. 2.5 inch is way faster.

1.8 inch hdd are 25 times slower than my SSD. Anyway, I couldnt be happier with the speed of my incredible laptop. I dont regret it, not one bit. Its the best laptop Ive ever owned.

Those synthetic benchmarks don't say so much.

It would be better to bench real life performance, like boot time.

Or PCmark 05 is ok too. http://www.futuremark.com/download/pcmark05/

My experience with the SSD was that it felt very fast.

    Sorry guys,

But are you sure the new TZ191 has the simcard built in(WWAN)? I don't see it anywhere in the specs in the sites.

Do you mean the TZ191 available in US?

Because this thread is about the TZ91, custom made model only available in Japan.

Not yet, according to Sony, the option won't be available until October 16th and you cannot choose the 1-Seg TV Tuner and vice versa, its one or the other.

What difference will it make from 1.2 GHz to 1.33 GHz? You will barely notice, I think. Rahul will ever make up your mind for taking an ultraportable??
My new TZ will have the 64 GB SSD and the optical drive. The other specs they will not change...2GB RAM, Standard Battery, 1.2 CPU. The reason I changed is the bigger storage and the WWAN built-in. But first I want to know if the WWAN will be usable in Europe :)
