I received by TZ195 as promised by Chris Colpic and almost to the hour that he promised, in time for my trip. My experience with Chris was terrific.

First off, the thinness and lightness of this nb is very noticeable. My previous nb was a dell insp. 700m at 4-5 lbs. I wasnt sure if I would notice the weight and size difference, but it is amazing! For one, my carry-on was lighter. Going through security yesterday was a breeze. No wrestling with laptop trying to pull it out and cram it back in my luggage. On the plane, I typed comfortably on it with it on my lap. It did not get too hot. The keys are a little more cramped than normal, but they are incredibly responsive. I watched a movie on the plane, and was amazed at the quality of the picture! I did not even realize I was watching such a small screen.

This nb turns on immediately. There is maybe a 15 second wait at the most before I can use it. There is 18 gb of memory left, but I still need to remove the bloatware.

I wasnt sure if I was going overboard in buying this nb, but now I know that this perfect for what I want. I am now at a meeting and carrying this little thing around with me effortlessly from conference to conference. In summary, I am very glad I bought the tz195. The mobitlity will be helpful for work and the screen is great for movies.

Welcome to the TZ195 club! I too bought from Chris (took forever to ship but otherwise was great) and am a happy camper. This is my first ultraportable and the mobility is amazing...

P.S. I uninstalled all the bloatware and got rid of the hidden partition (after making recovery discs) and had about 38GB free before I installed essential programs and transfered my files. Boot-up time is really fast and even demanding applications like Word and Outlook 2007 run instantly.

    yo guys, Congrats.
im awating my 190 from chris.

questions, i already bought P1 vista recovery disks. when i receive my tz, should i just insert P1 recovery disk into the tz and start removing all the stuff or should i make a backup disk of the partitions and then use P1 recovery disk?

I would definitely make recovery disks before doing the P1 clean install. Then, you can delete the hidden partition without fear. I also made a backup of the C:\Programs\Sony folder to be safe. If you like any of the Sony wallpapers, you should also back those up because P1 doesn't include them on their disc.

Hope you get your laptop soon.

Yes the bootup time is nil! I was a litle concerned it would be prolonged.

Nom., I dont know anything about boot up discks. Is this something I need as well?

I was concerned too. The super-fast boot up was quite a surprise. :)
Yes, always good to make the recovery disks (by going into the Sony Recovery Center), in case something goes wrong with your SSD. Also, you can then delete your hidden partition and reclaim a good chunk of space (I forget exactly how much but I think it was about 10GB -- significant given the small size of our SSD).

Have you read any of the threads? It has been stated numerous times that the TZ boots up super-fast, 1 min. and 15 seconds in my case, compared to non-SSD TZs.

Yes, ubercool, I've read ALL the TZ threads. ;) I don't always believe everything I read but, more important, even though I knew boot-up time was good with the SSD option, I didn't expect it to actually beat my high-end desktop. Thus the surprise. (BTW, my boot-up is well under a minute. 1 minute 15 seconds is more in line with what I expected.)

I especially like the way it wakes out of sleep. Virtually instantaneously, so cool!

Agreed. I am hoping that Vista's sleep mode works better on my TZ than my desktop (where it works about 75% of the time but won't wake up properly the rest of the time). Only time will tell and SP2 will supposedly make the sleep/hibernation modes more stable.
