very interesting, welcome to the boards and thanks for the post here. I wonder if this isn't just a European release for now though, hopefully it makes it state side, seems like a nice compromise between the S and FS.

    thank you :)

By the way according to the engadget com it will have 1280 x 768 widescreen display. I think this was also a drawback of fs series compared to s series. They have larger displays (15'' display) but not with higher resolution.

Nice! How is the battery life though? I got the feeling this one is going to use the same FS/S battery.

How is this any larger resolution?

    14" - 1280 x 768
    15.4" - 1280 x 800

The pixel density is ever so slightly higher, but not to the point where you'd notice any difference.

Does anybody know what graphics card this has? An X700 would be nice...

(Integrated graphics is mentioned, but it's in reference to a low-end preconfigured model)

Sony's marketing division must be working too hard. I mean, the new S Series, FS Series, BX Series, TX Series, and now the FJ? Geez, talk about desperate.

edit: Oh yeah.. welcome to the forums! :)

    Check Sony's site. The FS has 1280 x 800. It's a minor difference but a difference nonetheless.

Hey Eli... just wondering. You work for Sony? You've been promoting their products a lot lately. :p

They should, I and I know several others agree that this screen size is the sweet spot for notebooks. It permits the notebook to be small and portable yet is big enough to not cause any eyestrain. Kudos to whomever thought up of this screen size! Well, 13.3 inch screens are also good. I used to have a 10.6 inch screen and I never found it to be any problem but it seems very tiny and hard to look at now that I have a 15.4 inch screen.

ooh, they're pretty too. I like my blue Sony T33 camera, a nice blue Sony laptop to match would be cute -- okay maybe a little too cute, nix that idea.

Sony have something called the Y series here in Australia, which appears to be very similar to this new FJ. I saw one in a store but didn't look that closely.

sigh, i was just about to pull the trigger on the new s560/80. Darn. =\

any idea when we can get more specs on this bad boy? If it is thin, and not too much heavier than the S series then this might be the tough one to beat...

I should be paid by Sony at this rate...

I own a lot of Sony products including Sony VAIO's (both notebook and desktop), so that's why my interest has always been around Sony.

This looks like the laptop I've been waiting for. I like the size of the S-series, but I didn't like the keyboard layout and I don't care for laptops with 15.4" screens. They are too big.

Anyone know what the dimensions of this are? All articles I've read say that it is about 5 lbs.

Also, anyone know when it will be available in the US?

Looking forward to reading the first review!

Reminiscent of the old Apple purse laptops, huh? I like the styling, though. I might buy one yet...or hold out for an S series

I hope it doesn't have a 2-hour battery life like the FS series...

on sonystyle it says up to 3.5 hours for the FJ, the FS is listed as up to 5.5. So hopfully the FJ actually gets 3.5 because if its an exaggeration like the FS is then it could be under 2. That would be a major dissapointment.

That would be pretty nice. We'd have a real competitor to the Asus W3V!

That would sell so fast if it had a Go6400 or 6600....
