There seems to have been quite an update for the vaio FW on the sony tyle uk site.

I just bought my new FW from them less than a month ago for only about £150 less than this would be so I'm quite annoyed about this.

You can now get the custom FW45X
    with:

    - Core 2 duo 2.8GHz as opposed to the maximum before being 2.66GHz
    - Ati Mobility HD4000 1GB (Never heard of a 4000 card so im guessing thats the series but i think it's a HD 4650) as opposed to a Ati HD3650 512mb.

How much of a difference do you think these upgrades would have made to my system gaming wise?

    ---

    Custom Vaio FW3
    -2.66GHz core 2 duo
    -Ati HD 3650 GDDR3 512mb
    -320 GB 5400rpm HDD
    -Vista 64-bit
    -1920x1080 Full HD screen

You're a little late to the party on this one. Most of Sony's European sites, as well as the Japanese site, have had the FW400 for a week or more. It's been posted in several threads on this MB already.

As for the performance difference, the processor is negligible, but the graphics card is a very nice upgrade. If it was less than 30 days ago that you purchased your laptop (and you didn't have it engraved), I'm sure you could call Sony and ask to exchange it for the new model.

I don't see a change on the USA store. I guess we'll have to wait a few more weeks.

Yeah, it seems Sony in North America is always late for the party and it's worse in Canada than in the States too. Who knows, we might not even get the new ATI card in the FW soon (remembers when we didn't get the HD3650 in the first place at the beginning, while Europe had it!)

Hmmm, perhaps that will give me time to sell the FW290 with HD3650 so I can afford the new one. :)

    Cheers,

I don't give you much chance, but you never know until you try.
Maybe they give you a huge restocking fee..

Check the UK Sony return policies on the site.

In the U.S. you have 30 days, no restocking fee, but you are expected to pay the postage/freight of returning the computer -- unless, of course, the computer was defective. Then the computer goes to the Outlet and is sold at a discount over its original price configuration.

Dell has a restocking fee of a percentage of price, I believe; not sure what Mac does. Sony is quite reasonable, even generous in this regard in the States.
