    Hi all,

Just got myself a VPCz1, and have a few questions.

    Screen

On my last Sony Z laptop i noticed a long scratch in the middle of the screen, this was caused by the space bar pressing against the screen when the lid was closed. Sony told me nothing could be done as this was my fault, load of bull as i've seen it on loads of sony z laptop. Anyway at the mo i'm using a small cloth when shutting the lid. Does anyone suggest also using one of those screen covers, if so where do i get one?
Or is there something else i should be doing / using to protect the screen.

    Casing

Are there any protectors availble, i'm a engineer so i take my laptop ever where, please dont tell me i should have bought a Panasonic Toughbook.

    OS

I'm not intrested in doing a manual build but do want to make sure its runnign as fast as it can so i will be uninstalling all the crap thats not used? is there a guide anyone that tells me what i should remove ?

Is there anything that i should be doling to help me optimize performance? i've done all the Sony Updates.

I think that covers it but if you have any other usefull infomation please feel free to post.

    Thanks guys

For cases take a look at this thread

As for the screen, yes using a cloth should work. You can find screen protectors online :)
Just do a search on amazon or ebay.

As for the bloatware, make sure you only delete programs you do not require. You could use the system config utility to minimize number of processes starting at startup.

The gaming part, you could overclock the GPU using EVGA precision tool and if you are willing, you can take a look at the new drivers posted here in the community

I use the lens cleaning cloth that came with a pair of glasses between my keyboard and screen. Far from full coverage but I don't find that necessary since the sides are well supported and it's only the middle that sags. I travel a lot with my laptop, it's clocked over 25,000 miles already, and so far so good. I used to see little greasy keyboard key top impressions on the screen before I started doing this and I don't anymore. The bottom of the screen still runs against the top of the case by the hinges that does leave little scratches though.

Wow is this screen thing an issue on the VPCZ124? I had never heard of that, but obviously if it is an issue I need to start doing something similar.

If you wanted to eak a little more performance out of your GPU you could overclock it.

It's an issue on every laptop I've owned. It's just the nature of the beast. If you use your laptop as a desktop, you won't see it. If you carry your laptop in a bag with a bunch of other things that put pressure on the lid, you will.
